I had been thinking about getting a vertical hood piercing for a while. I had gotten a navel piercing eight years ago and really enjoyed the look. I had heard the many benefits of a vertical clit piercing and wanted to see for myself if they were true.

After asking my pierced friends (plus a few strangers) where they have gotten theirs done, one place kept popping up: Comes a Time Tattoo in Fairfax, VA. Most had recommended one particular piercer but a friend, who had recently gotten her nose pierced, highly recommended that I let another named Alex do the job.
I called to make an appointment but was told that I could just walk in whenever I had the time. I decided that Wednesday was the day for me and called my friend Liz to see if she would come with me for the moral support. We arrived at Comes a Time and I spoke to Alex about what I wanted. He was VERY professional and I only wish that my previous piercer had also been so. Obviously, it is hard to be modest with your legs in a stirrup but Alex was the epitome of professionalism. He kept his back turned while I got onto the table and maintained that professional attitude throughout the process. Alex examined my clitoral hood and explained some of the challenges he would encounter with a piercing there. Due to vein in the area, he informed me that he could not to a straight vertical. If he did it, the piercing would be slightly slanted. This observation completely reassured me that I had made the correct decision on which piercer to use. I did not want to go to someone w ho would just do whatever despite any potential hazards to me or, more importantly, did not have the experience to recognize a potential problem.
Once I made the decision to go ahead with the piercing, Alex prepared the area and did a very good job of making sure that I was aware that sterile procedures were being observed. He spent a good amount of time adjusting the catch tube to make sure that he missed the vein and that it would still lay in such a way to be pleasurable. He informed me when he inserted the tube that it would be uncomfortable and this was correct but I was expecting this from my research. On the count of three he said that he would do the piercing. This was the only time that he was never completely truthful with me; he actually did the piercing on the count of two, which was OK with me.
Regarding the pain: I can only speak for myself but the pain from this piercing was a million times greater than when I got my navel done. Possibly because I had read everywhere that the navel was more so, I was in no way prepared for the pain. In fact, I had to apologize to Alex because I instinctively clenched my legs together and accidentally locked his head between my knees in a death grip. We all had a chuckle when he told me I needed to open them and I informed him, through clenched teeth, that I was trying. One thing I will say about the pain, though, is that I found, like many others, it to be very transitive and it went away almost immediately. Do not get me wrong – I was sore down there for a few hours but by the next day it was almost gone.
After the piercing was done, Alex explained thoroughly the healing process and provided me with the necessary instructions for cleaning my new piercing. He recommended purchasing the H2Ocean spray and it was one of the best things that I did.
The healing process was as easy and quick as many here have reported. I would advise not wearing pants for a few days as I did have some soreness when, two days after the fact, I wore slacks to work. Other than that, I had no negative side effects.
I have had my piercing for four months now and really enjoy it. I did not let anything go near it for six weeks. Since then, I have found both solo and with partner activities to be greatly enhanced. I truly wish I had gotten this piercing years ago. If you are considering getting one I highly recommend it and, if you are in the Washington, DC metro area, I highly recommend Alex and Comes a Time Tattoo. The piercing is only as good as the piercer and I would suggest doing your research and making sure that you go to someone who has the knowledge and experience to do an excellent job.
