It was about a week ago that I finally got my "hole punched," as my close friend would put it. For a number of months I had considered getting a vertical hood piercing after having a very in depth conversation with my close guy friend. We'd talk about it often, and how much fun it would be for both of us to play with =) I definitely wanted a body mod, but something that was more personal, and meant for the pleasure of me and whoever else I choose to let it come in contact with. Discreet, yet extremely fun nonetheless. I had been browsing BMEzine and other websites such as tribalectic.com to make sure that the vertical hood was the mod for me. After looking through hundreds of pictures of women with the vertical mod, I decided that was it for me. Apparently it had more sexual purposes then a horizontal, and personally, I think it looked prettier than the horizontal did. So the next step was finding the time and the place to do it.

I'm a college kid. I'm pretty poor. I have little/no transportation out of the local area. Luckily Thanksgiving was coming up, and I'd be home, with a little extra cash, and a ride from my friend to the studio of choice. With two weeks to find a studio, I began searching online for studios to no end! I found a small chain of studios that was in my area (Northeast Massachusetts) that advertised genital piercings. I was hoping that the Salem, MA branch (The Purple Scorpion) would do the piercing, but when I called I found out they weren't permitted to do the piercing. Grr! Next was the Lion's Den Tattoo Parlor in Salem, NH. Come to find out, they weren't licensed to do it either, since Salem, NH won't allow it. With these two places (being the closest to my home) out of the question, I tried calling the Gloucester shop (The Purple Scorpion). Lucky me, the day I called they were closed. Needless to say I was ticked off that day =) The next day I got in touch with people there a nd asked the receptionist a few questions about the vertical hood piercing. She told me that a woman did it (which was a little relieving for me), the piercing itself cost $60, and the jewelry I wanted (curved barbell) cost $25. A little pricey, but I WANTED this done badly. I tried to make an appointment, seeing that I was running on a tight schedule for that next Sunday (my guy friend was going into Boston early that afternoon). Unfortunately they didn't take appointments, but told me she'd pencil me in. Alright, all there was left was building myself up to that next week...

All week I was excited and nervous about getting the piercing. I knew that it would hurt a little bit, but that it would be worth it soon after. My anatomy was irking me a little, because my hood is, uh, pretty fleshy...and didn't know if I'd be correct for it (but alas, I was =) ). I also wondered how my friends would react to it, seeing that this is something I wouldn't be able to hold secret for very long without wanting to tell my close buds. Finally that Sunday came, and I was completely ready. I decided to wear a skirt, despite the cold Northeast weather, in order to make things more comfortable and accessible. We drove to Gloucester, and found the studio with no problem. Once we got there, we found that Judy wasn't in yet, but that she'd be ready in about a half hour. So we walked around, then returned to the studio at 12:30'ish. Judy was there, and went through the generals of the piercing with me in the lobby (we being the only ones there, thankfully!). Judy showed me a small album of the genital piercings she's done, and told me not to be nervous (I guess I looked it, even though I didn't feel it!). She did all my paperwork, then made sure the vertical was the one I wanted, explaining that the horizontal was apparently more popular than the vertical. I definitely wanted the vertical. I asked if she had curved barbell jewelry, and to my dismay, found that she was all out. :( So, having to pick from a 14 gauge CBR or Horseshoe, I went with the horseshoe. As my friend was rubbing my neck to relax me, I was dying to get into the room! Then, in we went.

The room itself was pretty small, about the size of a dentist's room. I was hoping for no stirrups, and found there were none! She had me drop my undies, pull up my skirt, and straddle the chair (which resembed a dentist's chair also, only with paper for sterility). My friend came in with me for moral support, and held my hand and rubbed my neck the whole time, which was terrific. Judy proceeded to raise the chair a little, and lean it back slightly. Throughout the procedure, she explained everything she was doing, which was great. She sterilized the area (all the time while using sterile gloves), marked the area, remarked it, then informed me it was time for the actual piercing. She then changed her gloves, and fitted the receiving tube under my hood (which didn't hurt all) and told me to go about my counting to three. On the third exhale, she would pierce me. That exhale came, and in went the needle. I let out a little "eep!" but that was it. As soon as I felt any pain, sh e reassured me that the "worst was over." No kidding, it seriously didn't hurt after the initial pinch. I know I squeezed my friend's hand a little bit, but not enough to crush the damn thing =) As Judy finished tightening the ball on the end of the horseshoe, it pinched the skin slightly, and I think that was the most painful part of the whole procedure. There was a tiny bit of blood, but not enough for a pantiliner to be put on. I think the most hilarious part of the day came next when I heard Judy say, "uh oh, he's going down!"

My friend had passed out! I felt so bad! I was still sitting there spread eagle in the chair, and he had to go and wuss out on me! Hehe, just kiddin. So Judy immediately came around the room to prop him up against the wall. He must have been out for 20 seconds or so, went completely pale and everything. Finally he came to, but only for maybe 15 seconds. Then he went out again...this time to sleep, snore and all! Poor Judy, this woman about my height (5'4") propping up a 6'2", 200 lb. guy! When he finally woke up, she sat him down in the chair I was originally in, and had him lay down for about 5 minutes, complete with wet towels, cup of water, and candy. Poor guy, didn't have his coffee that morning, nothing to eat, was claustrophobic in the corner he was forced to stand in, and thought that it was going to hurt me more than it did. =( I assured Judy that I'd make him walk to Dunkins and get something to eat and drink. So I finally finished cleaning myself up, got dressed, a nd tipped Judy for all her trouble! As we walked out she gave me cleaning instructions for the next two weeks, and contact info incase anything seemed wrong. Off to Dunkins, and then home it was!

The walk around town, and the car ride home weren't bad at all. The piercing itself didn't hurt AT ALL, I was just being super careful with it. So it's been 8 days, and the piercing is doing wonderful! The first few days I went commando, and wore sweatpants. By that Tuesday I was wearing regular jeans and stuff. I'm cleaning it twice a day with Dial Soap and Bactine, and it doesn't sting at all when I clean it anymore. Only one more week of the soap/bactine, then I can let it heal naturally. Healing time is only 4-6 weeks, and after 2 weeks I can go back to sexual activities (which won't really be until Christmas break anyway).

In retrospect, this piercing was most definitely worth every minute of planning, and the one second of pain. I haven't had any sexual effects from it yet, seeing that the horseshoe doesn't lay directly on my clit. I might change the jewelry when I go home for winter break, however. All in all, I can't wait to get a lot of use out of this piercing, and I'm so glad I got it done. If you're considering getting this piercing done, I would recommend it 100%!!!
