I had wanted to get my hood pierced for a while but because I live in Kansas where there are no piercing studios for about 4 hours, I hadn?t been able to get it done. My husband and I went to Colorado for our anniversary trip and while we were there, I decided it was time to get it done! Before we left on this trip, I had researched a little and decided that Holey Rollers in Colorado Springs would be a good place to get my hood pierced. This was going to be my first ever piercing. Many people asked me why I wanted my hood pierced for my first piercing (other than ears) and the reason was because the healing time was shorted than that of the navel piercing. I wanted to get my navel done too, but I didn?t want to have to take care of both of the new piercings at the same time. The day of the piercing finally arrived (which happened to also be the day of my wedding anniversary) and I was very nervous! It took my husband and I a little while to find the studio. Finally w e found the studio, parked and paid the parking meter. We went inside and the atmosphere was wonderful! It was so soothing, comfortable and clean. I instantly felt comfortable about getting the piercing done there. There was a lady in front of me getting a piercing so my husband and I sat on the couch and waited out turn. Finally the guy that was working asked me to come up and choose the jewelry that I wanted. I was surprised to find that all of their jewelry was pre-packaged in individual packages. I chose a captive bead ring with a blue bead. I don?t remember what gauge it was but I think it was 14 g. I do know that it was a larger gauge than the artist had herself. Anyway, I signed a few papers, showed my ID, paid for the piercing and waited a little while longer until it was my turn.

The lady who was doing the piercing told me a little about aromatherapy and how it will help me to relax during the piercing. She dabbed a little underneath my nose and asked me to take off my pants and panties and lay down on the table. The table was exactly like the table in a gynecologist?s office complete with stirrups. When I lay down, she examined me and decided that I was only suitable for a vertical hood piercing. I agreed to that since that is the one I was wanting anyway. My husband was partial to the horizontal piercing but I like the vertical one. She then started trying to figure out a good placement for the ring. She poked a couple of spots and asked me to tell her what the most sensitive place is. I told her and she marked that spot with a pen. Finally, she told me to relax and on the count of 3 she poked the needle through. Now I must tell you the pain was incredible. I jumped right when the needle went through, but the pain only lasted for a second and it was gone! She put my ring in which only felt like a little tugging and then I was finished! The artist gave me the marking pen as a souvenir. I couldn?t believe that I actually had my hood pierced! I got dressed and went out to the waiting room where my husband was waiting and he asked me if I got it done and I said yes. He couldn?t wait until he could see it! I think I finally showed him in the car on the way to our campsite after getting the piercing done.
My piercing was a little sore and bled a little bit after getting it done. I wore my cloth shorts for a week instead of jean shorts because they rubbed too much on it. The piercing studio recommended Neutrogena Alcohol free cleanser to clean it with. I cleaned it faithfully for a month and after that it was pretty much healed. My ring is the most interesting thing that I have ever done to myself and I am so glad I got it done! I would definitely recommend this piercing to anyone who wants it. I can hardly tell that it is there during a normal day. It doesn?t bother me at all. Hopefully soon I will get my jewelry changed. It is about time, I have had the same jewelry in since I got it done. I would like to get a banana bell put in but I am not sure how that would look or feel. I can tell you without a doubt that this was the best anniversary present that I have ever gotten for my anniversary.
