It's been 5 years or so since I last had a piercing of any sort. Back in my younger days, a nipple and a labret were as far as I went, and I really didn't consider getting anything else done. The labret came out after a year, the nipple ring almost went a couple of times (I play rugby), but finally had to go when I was due to have an MRI scan (a scan involving a big magnetic tube - not the place to be with piercings).
I arrived back in New Zealand just before Christmas, having been away for a year floating around the Americas and Europe, and settled back into my day job. I finally have some money, time and space to dedicate to my body - but where to start?
Well, to be honest, right on this web-site. PA's had always intrigued me. Having also meet the most beautiful, loving, carefree girl in the world, who also happened to have very few hang-ups about sex, and a "if it feels good, do it" attitude, it was an easy decision to make.
I rocked up to FleshWound, a very respected piercing studio in Wellington, New Zealand, and had a chat to the guys about the piercing.
Their words (which I am happy to confirm): PA's are less painful then nipples piercings. Because the needle is going through soft tissue, they heal quite quickly - within 4 - 6 weeks. They don't get gunked up, because of the urine flow which helps keep it clear. How-ever, wear a condom whilst fucking (until your healed), and make sure you use lots of water based lube. Give it salt bath twice a day, and keep clean with some anti-bacterial soap.

The Piercing
One thing dawned on me as I made my way into Wellington for my appointment to be pierced - I didn't actually ask who was going to be doing it. Hamish is the most well known and respected piercer in Wellington.... I really hope he was a) going to be at the shop early on a Saturday, and b) he wasn't going to get one of his apprentices to do it. I had mental images of shaky hands, and crooked needles shooting out the side of my cock. Ouch.
I needn't have worried. Hamish was outside the shop having a quick smoke. We said Hi, and followed him inside.
My girlfriend decided to come along with me, and watched with a fascinated (scared) expression on her face. I actually almost laughed at the horrified look she had when Hamish finally pushed the needle in through the bottom of the head and out through my Urethra. But I digress.
A little nervous, I was suddenly in the chair, pants off, with my feet up in the straddles. I imagine it felt like going to the gynecologist. Wow, did I feel vulnerable.
Hamish fed the receiving tube into my Urethra. A little ouch, but I was prepared for that, having read some of the stories on BME. I sucked it up, and put my mind elsewhere, drifting away from what was happening in the room. My brain had drifted off so much that when Hamish started counting, I hadn't even realized it was needle time!
Then, 1... 2... *breath in*... 3! *breath out*. Ouch! A pinch-like sting, in quite a sensitive area, I felt my body flush a little as the adrenalin kicked in. But over quickly, and not half as bad as your brain thinks it will be. I looked down to find a needle sticking happily up and out of my urethra. Hamish then fed the half-ring through, and tightened the ends.
Done. I am now the happy owner of a brand spanking new PA. And it was truly easy!

Prologue
I'm a regular guy, no tattoos (yet), and no other piercings since my nipple came out. As it's been mentioned in other stories, it's fantastic to have a secret that no one knows about but you and your partner. I walk around town now and wondering who else was their own little piercing secrets.
My advice to anyone thinking it over: Just book it man, life's too short to wonder about it. If you don't dig it, you can take it out. If your partner doesn't like the feel of it during sex, you can take it out briefly (once healed), and then put it back in.
Probably the easiest piercing experience of my life, and the range of new sensations the thing sets off are well worth the tiny pinch. When my girlfriend tugs on it with her teeth, swirls it round with her tongue, or shoves it to the back of her throat.... It's really hard to describe. It also makes you wonder.... what other nerves could I find to stimulate in different ways... Hrm?
Peace,
J
