As a female piercer, I get lots and lots of requests for male genital piercing (only half follow through). Some of the most common requests are usually for Prince Alberts (PAs) or Jacobs Ladders (frenum ladder).

The first studio were I was employed at only did limited genital piercing- male or female. Prince Alberts were one of the piercings they absolutely would not allow me to do. The piercer who I learned under there, was strongly objected to any male genital piercing that passed through the urethra. His reasoning was this- "I won't do anything that makes a man have to piss like a girl". He also told me in a very matter of the fact way that PAs were dangerous to do since they had a high risk of hitting a nerve bundle and rendering the subjects genitals "useless".

Now...misconception number one- not all genital piercings which pass through the urethra make you have to sit to pee. Actually, if the jewelry is in place, and fits snug, there should be no problem...not even a drip (the drip is usually from the urine that drips off the end of the jewelry, not from inside the piercing).

Misconception number two- Prince Alberts are not that difficult to preform, granted you have the same equipment as most guys. They are also not excruciatingly painful either, as I was first told, and if done correctly- there should be very little risk involved at all (little beyond your typical genital piercing risks that is).

Now, at the studio I am currently working from, a man came in wanting a Prince Albert last week (much to my joyful glee). The piercers at this new studio have been doing these for a while and were surprised that I wanted them to show me how to do it correctly. I explained my past situation to them in regards to the piercer I had to learn under and they were more than happy to show me how. Probably because this meant they no longer had to handle this type of male genital piercing anymore!

Our client arrived (nervous as they always are) and we set-up to begin. The piercer informed me that the best way to do the procedure was to use a needle receiving tube (which the client had asked about on the phone- stating he wanted it done right). We marked him on the underside of his penis and got the right sized ring to allow for a little swelling. The piercer then opened a needle receiving tube and (after slight lubrication) inserted the receiving tube into the urethral opening at the end of the penis.

Now, guys always flinch when I tell them about that part, but I must say...this guy didn't look too terribly uncomfortable (and I have seen vivid displays of discomfort in this line of work and can easily tell how my client is taking the procedure).

I could see the shape of the tube just slightly and could see when it had been inserted far enough down into the urethra to meet the mark we had placed on the outside. The piercer gave our client a brief moment to brace himself, before piercing from the underside right into the needle receiving tube, in one clean swift move. Our client barely had time to flinch and it was over. No blood. No loud screams or agonizing pleas for help. Just a small flinch and it was done! I think our client was really surprised that the pain level of the procedure had not met his expectations, and I could tell that was a really great thing to him. I love it when my clients look at me afterwards and say, "Well, that wasn't shit!". They run and spread the good word to others too- just as they would run to tell their horror story if things don't go well.

So, jewelry (a captive bead ring- of a good size diameter to allow for some swelling) was inserted with ease. Fifteen minutes from when he came in- our client was ready to go. We gave him the basic rundown of aftercare and various sexual precautions he needed to take during the healing process (which is not as long as one would think)- the main precaution being- always use a condom for any contact whatsoever with another person. We explained that he would be highly susceptible to any and all foreign germs during the healing process, and that the care and caution people take with their new piercing makes all the difference in the world as to whether or not the piercing would be successful later on down the road.

Since then, I have had time to do a little bit of new research on male genital piercings since this arena was now much broader for me. I read from more than one source that male genital piercings which pass through the urethra tend to be more sturdy and secure (as opposed to many piercings on the outer part of the shaft)- they hold up quite well in the long run and tend to endure sexual activity far better overall. I also read that they have a better chance of healing since the urine flow acts to "irrigate" the piercing.

So- all you guys out there who are trying to decide what type of genital piercing you want...remember to keep this option open. It's not as bad as you may imagine!
