Mr Happy gets a PA |
| ||||||||||||||||
I had thought about getting a PA for several months but was concerned about the pain, discomfort and blood. What I found out was my concerns were somewhat unfounded. How does one write a story about their experience in getting their first piercing, a PA? I guess you just put it in words; so, here goes:I have always found PAs to be very arousing on other guys (i.e. I'm gay) and had wanted one for some time, but I had several reservations including could I handle the pain. After my partner decided to get his belly button pierced, I thought what the heck, if he could handle that I could handle a PA. Besides, we are going to Southern Decadence in New Orleans in September and I wanted to be able to show it off to all the hot guys!
In my mind I kept making plans to go to Royal Oak Tattoo in Royal Oak, Michigan, but never was able to follow through. Then, this past Monday evening, I decided that on Thursday I would take the plunge (as it were), do the deed and take the next day off. I called the shop on Monday and they told me the cost ($82), that it was handled on a walk-in basis and would only take five minutes. Wow, all the excitement would be over in just five minutes and Mr. Happy would be able to show off a little metal at the urinal and on the streets of New Orleans!
I left the office and headed for Royal Oak at the end of the day. After driving by the studio and finding a parking space on a side street, I started walking to the studio. Could I do this? I turned around and head back to the car thinking I can't go through with my plan. I mustered my courage and again headed for the studio. After standing on the street a few doors down from the studio for ten minutes, I finally walked the last 40 yards to the door and walked in. Rather matter-of-factly I told the woman at the counter that I wanted a PA. She took my ID, had me sign a release, pulled out a 10ga ring and had me pay. At this point Joe walked over and took me back to the piercing area.
Joe had me sit in the chair and he began explaining the procedure, aftercare, etc. while he pulled out the tools of the trade. Having already educated myself through other piercing sites, read several postings on this site, and read aftercare instructions provided to my partner by the same studio, I only half listened. Finally, he told me the best way to handle the procedure was to remain calm and relaxed by taking deep breaths. Of course, this was going to be hard since he was cute and I was afraid of sprouting full wood right there in the chair. He asked me to drop my pants and we were off.
Next, he asked me if I preferred the entry point to be on the left or right. I told him I tend to hang right; so, left it was. He marked the point of entry on the bottom side of my tool and got the receiving tube ready. While he was inserting the tube I asked which hurt more, the inserting of the tube or the piercing itself. Before he could answer, I asked him not to tell me so I could remain as calm as possible (remember my fear of the pain). I sat back, breathing deeply waiting for the pain. When all was said and done, I only felt a short burst of pain and it was over. Good thing he had already warned me that by the time I felt the pain the whole thing would be over. I looked down to see blood and began to feel very warm. As the sweat rolled down the back of my neck and arms he mopped up the blood (I guess it wasn't all that much or so he told me) I continued to take deep breaths. Finally, he laid the chair back and fanned me to let the blood go back to my head. I felt better in only a couple of minutes. He proceeded to insert the ring, use the pliers to force the ring back together and put the ball in place. A few more minutes of resting, a glass of water, a little gauze, a rubber glove and rubber band to hold it all in place and I was ready to walk out the door.
I headed back to the car and decided to call a girlfriend of mine to tell her what I had done. When I originally told her that I was think of doing it she didn't believe me; so, I had to call her right away. While on the phone with her, she asked if she could see it the next time she was in town and I readily agreed (thanks, Donna, for the enthusiasm!). She also told me about a guy she read about in her local paper who was fired from his job for talking about his PA at work. This was done under the guise of sexual harassment; but you would never believe where he worked, a porn company!
The drive home seemed long, but I made it after stopping to pick up the requisite triple antibiotic and Neutrogena soap. My partner was home when I arrived and questioned where I had been. Although I thought my partner might be upset that I did it, my fear was unfounded; he was only upset that I didn't take him along!
Late last night I finally mustered the courage to take the glove and gauze off. There was more blood then I had expected and it took me 45 minutes to clean my head which included a period of being lightheaded and a quick shower. I ended up wearing two pair of boxers to bed to catch the blood, and I slept fairly well on my back; a position I don't like.
This morning the cleaning went well. I soaked it in a little salt water first which aided the cleaning. I am moving a little slow today, but things seem to be going well. We'll see what the next several days bring.
All in all, it was a pretty good experience (other than seeing the blood). The next step will be waiting until I can have a little fun with Mr. Happy again. I am eagerly looking forward to the new sensations and expressions from other guys (my partner and I have an open relationship after nine great years - thanks Bret).
My advice to others, read as much as you can to become educated, don't be afraid to go for it, find a good studio like Royal Oak Tattoo and have fun when it's done. Here's hoping to see your PA at a urinal near me!
