About a month after my 18th Birthday, I decided that I wanted to add to my piercing collection. I live very close to Old Town Tattoo, and as I had used this place before knew it was impeccably clean, and that the staff were always available if I had any questions. The only problem was deciding which piercing to get...
At A Glance Author Eryn Contact Foxxy03@tesco.net When Three months ago Artist Nathalie Studio Old Town Tattoo Location Blackfriars Street, Edinburgh, Scotland I started researching on the internet, and started looking at nipple piercings, and instantly fell in love with them. I thought they decorated breasts perfectly and knew that it was going to be my next piercing.
I started telling my friends what I was going to have done next, and they were horrified! They tried to discourage me, saying how painful it would be- something I hadn't even thought of- but they couldn't change my mind. I knew this was something I was going to get done. It took me a while to work up the courrage to get it done, but I wanted it so badly- I just had to have it done.
The day I decided to get my piercing done, I went to the shop but Nathalie wasn't there, so I booked an appointment for the following day. I put a deposit of £10 down, and also decided to get my upper cartilage done on the same day (I have become a bit of a piercing addict) and left with a huge smile on my face.
The next day I turned up, Nathalie greeted me, told me to wait as she prepared the piercing room, and then led me through. Her trainee was also there but she is absolutely lovely so I had no problems with her being there. They were both very professional and made me feel completely at ease, and discussed with me the after care and asked me medical questions, and I signed all the paper work. They showed me the earring they would use, and they did my upper cartilage first, which I barely felt.
Next was my nipple piercing. As I filled in the paperwork, I began to realise that I was going to actually go through with it! I began to panic, and almost chicken out. Nathalie told me I would have to wear a ring first, which almost put me off- I am not a fan of rings as jewellery piercings- but when she told me I could change it in 3 weeks I decided it was worth it. I took off my top, which I thought I would be embarrassed by, but it s no problem. They were both very professional.
Nathalie marked on my nipple where the needle would enter and exit, and then put the clamp on. The clamp hurts a bit, but it's more of an uncomfortable feeling then being particularly sore. At this point I started panicking, and Nathalie and the trainee told me about there experiences of being pierced, which reassured me greatly. The trainee said she would much rather have her nipple pierced again than get a cartilage piercing. I though she was perhaps just trying to assure me, as she knew that I don't find cartilage piercings sore, but I gave her the benefit of the doubt. Finally, Nathalie said, are you ready? And I nodded...
She counted to three and then the needle went through, and honestly, I barely felt a thing. I felt a slight nip, but the needle was in and out before I even realised. It was so quick I barely even felt it.
She gave me the mirror, and wow!!! It was amazing, it really is. Even the ring, which I am not too keen on, looks amazing!! It really does! It bled slightly, but I was given a cotton plaster and Nathalie put it in place using Surgical tape.
She gave me an after care sheet, I paid her (£25 bargain!) , and she told me to come back in three weeks for her to check it's progress, which I did and it was healing so well that I changed it to a jewelled bar- which I am totally in love with. It's the prettiest piercing I have gotten.
If you are worried about getting a nipple piercing because you have big boobs or small nipples- DON'T!! I am a 34G and have small nipples and I pierced easily! In fact my piercer said she found small nipples easier to pierce!
From experience, I would say research around before you have any piercing or tattoo done. As long as you pick a good piercer- one whom you trust, any piercing should never hurt that much. If you are in the Edinburgh area, I strongly recommend Old Town Tattoo. It's very clean and they are very professional and make you feel completely at ease. Hope I have helped, if you have any questions feel free to email me!
