Ever since I was quite young, I have been in love and attracted too, the counter culture. This love affair started innocently enough with a love for punk bands, and escalated to a full blown love and lifestyle. Now my parents, as supportive and open minded as they try to be, having a 42 age gap between us, were and still are (kind of) very strongly opposed to body modifications, tattoos, and piercings. Needless to say, that was not going to stop a fourteen year old rebel who looked and acted about 18, from getting her first professionally done piercing.

Being underage, and only in grade 9, as well as having parents that forbid me from skipping school, made this all the more difficult. So I came up with a plan, I sucked up for money, sucked up to my buddy with a car one lunch hour, and I was off to the studio. I had called ahead to make sure the piercer with the reputation for never checking ID's was working alone, and I went in.
She asked what I wanted, "nippl es" and she made me fill out the forms, I used my correct birthday, but changed the year, and so if she asked I could present to her my health card, with conveniently has no birthday on it, as it's South African. She didn't ask.
She took me to the back of the shop and pulled the curtains around me and my best friend who had accompanied me to get her tongue pierced. I was so nervous I was shaking, but being me, I had to be tough, and I pretended not to be scared at all.
At that point, my boyfriend showed up and he too came in the room to watch. The studio is personally my favourite studio in the area, I love the 2 piercers/tattooists, and I like the atmosphere and cleanliness that they have.
Barbie and I talked about, what jewellery I wanted, and I wanted a hoop but she advised that my nipple size, (which is rather tiny) would be better off with a straight bar, which in the end, I preferred and have never taken out. Barbie asked me to remove my shirt and bra, and I handed them to my friend, who was freaking out for my sake. Barbie cleaned my nipples, gave them a look over, marked them, clamped them, and pierced them. The clamps are the only part that hurt! I was expecting this body numbing, excruciating, pulsing, unbearable pain, and my only response was "its over"? She then went over the routine for cleaning them and everything, and that was it. I honestly thought I was dreaming, there was no way, that shoving a metal bar through your nipple wouldn't hurt at all, but honestly, I never felt a thing.
I walked out the studio after my friend got her tongue pierced, walked across the road, bought some soap and some mouthwash for her, and we called our ride to come get us. We got back to school with 20 minutes before lunch was over, that includes stopping for MacDonald's on the way back to school. But the entire procedure was painless. Wearing a bra was the only part of the entire thing that was even uncomfortable. The aftercare I barely stuck too, I cleaned them once a day to every other day for 3 weeks, and that was it. They healed perfectly. No dead skin, no swelling, nothing. They were perfect. I've had them for a year now, and I'm now 15, I absolutely love them, and so does everyone I know that has seen them. My parents are now allowing me to get piercings, but I still haven't told them about this one.
Overall, I love them, they are so sensitive though, strangely I was told you lose sensation in your nipples when you get them pierced, but I got the exact opposite. Even the slightest touch, I can feel. In the past year, I have had them, I have almost torn them both out, by doing stupid things, but amazingly, they healed without a problem. As far as piercings go, they are worth every cent, and I will go to the grave with them in. They are my favourite piercing, and I guarantee they always will be. They are so beautiful, and one of the best parts is, they are such a surprise! They make me feel so much better about myself.
However, what I did at that age, was probably very stupid of me, and I do not, by any means recommend what I did. You should always go to a piercer that checks how old you are, and doesn't skip even one step of the procedure. Now, that I have read more about nipple piercings, I have realized what risks I took, getting my nipples pierced when I was only 14.
