I am a 20 year old who is very new to body modification. I have no tattoos and I only had a vertical clitoral hood piercing... until yesterday! I am very scared of pain and try to avoid it as much as possible. I took half of a Xanax, which I have a prescription for, to calm my nerves.

Since I got my vertical clitoral hood done for him last year for Valentine's Day, I figured he would never expect something like that again. So for Valentine's Day this year, I decided to suck up all my fears and go for it. I called the studio the day before and talked to the artist and owner, Brian. He was so nice as to open up an hour early for me to come in. I wanted to do this for privacy reasons. I went in, signed all the appropriate forms and he explained to me all the risks and benefits in detail. He was very nice and made me feel 100% comfortable. He went over the care instructions for me beforehand also.
He had me take my shirt and bra off and asked stand in front of him so he could see the "natural hang" of my breasts. It was cold in the room so my nipples were already erect and he marked the entry and exit points with the marker. After he selected the jewelry that fit my nipples the best, I laid down in the chair and he sterilized my breasts with iodine and alcohol. He put the clamp on and told me to close my eyes and take a deep breath in through my nose and out through my mouth. And right when I did this he pierced my first nipple! I did not even flinch.
I was so surprised by the little amount of pain. I am not going to lie, it did hurt, but not nearly enough to even think about not getting my other nipple done. He put in the ring. It was then time for the next nipple. It is true, the second one hurts worse. I feel this is because you are anticipating the pain. I believe this piercing is one of those that are painful for about five seconds and then experience a dull ache for a while. After my second one was done, I started to get a little light headed as I usually do when I experience pain. He gave me a glass of water and had me continue to lay down for a few minutes and put the last ball on my piercing. My piercings didn't bleed at all when I got it done. I just got this piercing done yesterday and it barely hurts now. It mainly just feels hot and a little as if they were raw. He told me this was completely normal. He basically told me to expect to be a little sore for up to a few weeks.
I went home, used saline solution to get the purple marker off my nipples and I took a picture with my digital camera, printed it, and put it in the Valentine's Day card I got for my boyfriend. You should have seen his look of surprise when he saw what I had done. He absolutely loved it; however, he has to keep his hands off for a few more weeks.
I have cleaned it three times so far. You are supposed to clean the piercing two times a day. First, I have to use anti bacterial soap to clean my hands, then I get in the shower and let warm water run over the nipples and use my cleansed hands to loosen up the "crusties". Then, you are supposed to use the anti bacterial soap and lather up the piercing, move it around six times, and then rinse. Next, you are supposed to pour sterile saline solution over your nipples and move around six times again. Finally, you need to rinse the solution off with the warm water, move the piercing to the position you want it in, and leave it alone. He stressed to me to LEAVE IT ALONE!
I definitely recommend this piercing to anyone who wants it. I have heard all the horror stories and I think that if you take care of them, and give them the time they need to heal, there is nothing to worry about. Also, you should make sure you sleep with some form of a bra on at night time. I had a friend who tosses in her sleep and got one of her rings caught in her tank top and ripped the skin. You really need to follow the rules of no playing with them. There are stories where a girl let a guy lick them and he had a Staff infection and to make a long story short, has a huge hole in her breast from the infection. So take care of them and be proud! You have a secret no one else knows about.
