When I woke up today, I decided I wanted to get my nipple pierced. I've always thought of a nipple piercing as beautiful but I never thought I would want to get on myself. The thought of a needle being shoved through my nipple always put me off, but the more I thought about it, the more I wanted it done. I always put off getting the piercing and got other piercings instead. Hearing that someone I knew had just got her nipples pierced motivated me to get a nipple piercing myself. I rang up my friend and asked him if he wanted to come on a trip to town with me. I didn't mention what I wanted done; I just said I wanted to go shopping. Once I met up with him I told him, his reaction was not very positive. However I was used to this. I had mentioned the idea to a few people I know, including my boyfriend, who all did not agree with the idea. I decided that I wanted this for myself and went ahead with the plan any way.

We stood outside for a while studying the list of piercings and prices as I put off going into the shop. After about 15 minutes we went in. We sat down and had a look at the portfolio. After other customers had been seen to I told the receptionist that I wanted a nipple piercing. I decided on having one nipple piercing because first of all I wasn't sure if I wanted two, and secondly I thought I would wait to see how much it hurt and how it healed before subjecting my body to a second piercing. The piercer came out and asked me to come into the room. I sat down while she prepared the jewellery and needle. I chose to have a bar put in. I preferred the look of a bar, and when I asked the piercer whether it was better to initially have a bar or BCR in, she said bar. So that was that settled. She asked me to remove my tops, which I did with no problem. Luckily for me I have no problem with being topless. She cleaned the area and then marked my nipple. She then asked me to lie down on the bed. She put the clamp on, which just felt like someone pinching my nipple. I wouldn't say it hurt. She told me to take a deep breath, and then she pierced the nipple. I could feel the needle going through and it did hurt a bit, however it definitely did not hurt as much as I thought it would, and I still feel that my cartilage piercings hurt a lot more. She put in the bar, which didn't hurt much either and it was all done! I felt extremely relieved and when I looked at my new piercing I fell completely in love with it. I had always loved nipple piercings but I thought mine was the most beautiful I had seen yet. I was extremely pleased with the piercing. I put my tops back on as the piercer gave me the after care instructions.
Once I got home I had a look at the piercing. I saw that there was no blood at all and found it to be almost painless. Sometimes it hurt a bit if I stretched my right arm up but that was all. Currently I will be cleaning it with a salt-water soak once or twice a day to help it heal. At the moment I find it most comfortable to not wear a bra as they rub on the piercing and irritate it. I find it most comfortable to wear a tight fitting top such as a tank top, which will hold the piercing still without knocking it or rubbing against it. At the moment the piercing does look a little bruised either side of the holes but other than that it looks fine. The experience as a whole was a lot less scary than I anticipated. I was expected quite a bit of pain with this piercing but found the pain very tolerable and it lasted only for a few seconds. For anyone thinking of getting a nipple pierced, I would definitely recommend it. They look beautiful and are relatively easy to look after. The only thing I am slightly disappointed with is that my boyfriend doesn't seem to approve, but he hasn't seen it yet so I am determined to change his mind!
Also for people who are worried about getting topless; just remember that the piercer will have probably looked at lots of people's nipples as part of their job and will think of nothing of seeing yours. I am very pleased with my new piercing and I am certainly thinking of having the other one done once this one is healed.
