I've been wanting various piercings for a few years now, but nipple piercings haven't been one of my most desired till recently. My boyfriend has nipple piercings, and they've always proved to be rather..err.. useful. I didn't really think about getting them for myself until he mentioned it. Ever since then I had been thinking about it and getting pretty excited about it. They looked cool, my parents would never find out, and they also make your nipples much more sensitive (which I have found to be very true).

After talking about it for a while, we finally we went to the city to find a good piercing place. We found a little place on Astor St, and told them that I wanted my nipples done. The guy told us he had two customers and that he would take us in a bit. At this point I was getting a bit nervous, but mostly out of excitement. I had not been nervous about pain or anything like that before because it just didn't seem like a terribly painful kind of piercing. I guess it's good that I wasn't aware of the big deal people make out of it (which I found out later) or else I may have been too afraid to do it.

Anyway so we go in, and he asks me to lift my shirt to see my breasts. He then starts preparing all this stuff, needles and whatnot, I'm not really sure what he was doing. My boyfriend was talking and talking and reassuring me, so I wasn't paying much attention. He then wipes my nipples with all this stuff to get them clean. I'm assuming he was using the Bactine. He then had me stand up straight to mark my nipples. He started pinching my nipples to try and get them erect, which didn't happen too easily. He was really professional about it though, and I wasn't at all uncomfortable. I sat back down and after a little while, he was finally ready. At this point I was pretty nervous, but it was mixed well with excitement. He clamped my nipple with these tong type things, and brought the needle to it. He told me to breath in and out, in and out, and as I did, he pierced it. I did bite my lip a little, because you could definitely feel a slight resistance, but the pain is really fleeting. I looked down to see a huge needle in my left nipple. It kind of stung, but then he put the ring in. He had asked me before if I wanted a ring or a barbell, but I'm not sure exactly when that took place. Anyway, so he puts it in, and then clamps the ball in. The same procedure occurred for the second nipple. I read here that the second nipple is supposed to be more painful or something, but it really wasn't that bad. It was basically the same thing. I guess it was a little worse, only because I knew what to expect. But it really wasn't bad at all. After that, he wiped them both down with Bactine, and went over the cleaning procedure, which was using the Bactine at least 3 times a day, but 4 to 5 was optimal. I would have to do this for about 6 weeks. He then put bandages over my nipples and told me not to take them off for 2 hours.

Now I just clean it about 5 times a day with the bactine. You have to make sure you get it all over the ring and everything. It kind of stings, but it's really nothing, and I guess that's good because it means that it's killing bacteria. And it's not really a hassle or anything, and I can barely feel them now. And if I touch or apply pressure to my breasts, the pain is pretty nominal. So I would say my body is taking them pretty well. And I can sleep just fine, they don't get in the way of that either.

So that was it. Small amount of pain for a whole lot of beauty. I told some of my friends, and then word spread, and everyone was like "oh my god you're so crazy" "oh my god I could never do that" "wow you're so brave" and stuff like that. That's when I realized what a huge deal this supposedly was, and I was just like "err it really wasn't that bad..." I guess it's just that I had never really talked to anyone else about nipple piercings and when I thought about it myself, I didn't really think it would hurt much. And I was right. So if you're thinking about getting them, and pain is the only thing holding you back, I would say just go for it. It's fleeting and it actually feels kind of nice if you're really excited about the piercing.
