So last Thursday I was having kind of a bad day. First of all I am a college student and I was traveling home to visit my family for New Year's. When I got home, my mother informed me that my dog was very sick and we may have to put him to sleep, and also that I had to work on New Year's Eve...bummer! I had plans to go out and have fun with friends, not be stuck bartending in my hometown (which is a very small and boring town may I add.)

Well at this point I thought, maybe I should get my nipples pierced, I mean a new piercing always cheers me up and I was at home so my regular piercer could do it for me. One of my friends has her nipples pierced also, so I called her up and asked her if she would come with me and she agreed she would; I think she was more excited about it than I was. This was one of the only piercings I was truly scared of hurting very badly, and I am not a piercing virgin. I also have my septum, tragus, naval, tongue, and both earlobes pierced.

So on Friday we decided to drive to Wausau (about 20 minutes away from my home), even though the weather wasn't the greatest and the roads were kind of slippery. My appointment was at 1:30 p.m. and we arrived at about 11:30 a.m., so we decided to kill some time by doing a little bit of shopping. I was starting to get really nervous and contemplated backing out and getting it done another time. I have heard so many things about the pain being so bad, but my friend kept assuring me that it would be ok. She told me that hers didn't even hurt that bad. May I also add that she had hers done twice, due to the rejection that came with hers the first time around, so I thought well if she can get hers done twice it can't be that bad. Well it was finally time to go to my appointment, and once I arrived there I got even more scared. There was one other person in the shop, getting a tattoo done, but that was it. So Diane, my piercer, came over and explained everything before we got started and also gave me a piece of candy (I think it is supposed to spike your blood sugar-not sure though.) I showed her my driver's license, filled out and signed the waiver and paid her upfront. I had decided on 14 gauge straight barbells, done vertically.

She then had me sit down while she prepped everything. I was getting really, really scared by now, but also really excited. I knew if I backed out now, that I probably wouldn't come back to do it again, so I decided to just do it. Then she called me back, and I brought my friend with me. Might I add that everything was very professional and clean, and Diane has her piercing certification framed and in plain sight, also I have been to her for many of my other piercings, so I don't even question the cleanliness or quality of the studio any more. Anyway, back to the story. So she had me sit down, take off my shirt, and proceeded to mark my nipples with a marker. I was getting them done vertically, so she marked the top and bottom of both of them very carefully, then let me check the markings, which looked great. She then put ice on my nipples to numb them a little, which was very cold. She then took out the clamps and carefully positioned them on my nipples, which hurt more than I thought it would. Then she got the first needle ready, had me breathe deeply in and out, and then in and out again, and on the last breath out, she pushed the needle through. Holy buckets! It hurt like a mother, I am not going to lie, definitely the most painful piercing I had ever gotten. Then it was on to the left nipple, in which she did the same way as the first. Wow, this one hurt even more, of course, and it made my whole breast hurt, almost all the way down to my stomach.

So both needles were in, she just had to put the jewelry in. Putting the jewelry in was pretty painless, so that was good. She then cleaned everything up, it was bleeding more than any of the other piercings I had ever gotten, and I put my bra and shirt back on. She put pieces of paper towel in my bra, since it was still bleeding, I tipped and thanked her, and then I was on my way. When we left, they were semi-sore but nothing major. They became extremely painful in the hour after that though, and I had to take some Tylenol to ease the pain.

In the time after that, they have been pretty well. The right side is pierced a little deeper than the left and bled a lot more in the few days after the initial piercing, but the pain has subsided greatly. It has been a week and I am extremely happy with them, they look great and are also starting to feel great.

I would recommend this piercing, if it is something you really want to do, but I will also say that is pretty painful. The pain is pretty short, but very intense. If you want to do this though, it is worth it. I love my new piercings!
