Ever since my brother did his very first piercing, I wanted to do something of the same. My parents did not let me get anything done, other than my ears, so on my birthday I asked my brother to take me to get my ears done. I had really admired the industrial for a long time, and I thought it would look great on me. When I got there though, my ears would not take an industrial, so I had a decision to make.

I was contemplating getting a facial, but my Speech team mandates no visible piercings other than ears. I was thinking very hard, when in a joking manner my brother suggested "How about getting your nips done?" I remember when he had his done, he complained for months about the pain, and I was worried.

I mulled it over for a bit, and had my piercer take a look to see if they even could be pierced. When he said they could, and mine were big enough to take [with proper care, of course] I bit down and said, "Why the hell not?"

I choose my jewelry and decided on getting straight barbells to start out with, as they tend to heal a bit faster, since there is a smaller chance of getting them caught on anything. I went for the .12 gauges because I already had four holes in my ears that were .14's and wanted something a bit bigger. My brother was footing the bill, so I got a nice set of coloured titanium, and watched as Jeremiah made sure the barbells were in new condition, and put them in the sanitizer.

We then went into the piercing room where he marked up where they were going to go, and at first, they seemed to tilt a bit. I asked him if the markings were supposed to look like that, and he said he had to put the piercings in at a bit of an angle, otherwise they would migrate. I checked in the mirror again, and lay down on the chair. My brother decided to go in with me, to make sure nothing went wrong, and told me over and over to just relax, and breathe. It was good advice.

When the barbells were sterilized, he talked me through how he would go about clamping the nipple, line the needle up with the marks, and push it through- threading the barbells in as he went. I was very nervous at this point, because I hate needles, so I closed my eyes. He unwrapped the tools and I just looked straight up at the ceiling- there was a little wind chime and I watched that, as I took deep breaths. He clamped down, and that part did not hurt at all. I tensed up a bit, and he said, breathe in and out through your nose. Long deep breaths. I did, and he said, "Ok, now a little prick as I line up the needle to the markings". It felt a bit like someone pushing a sharp pencil against my skin, very light pressure. "Deep breath now", and I felt the needle go through. It was a split second of pain, but it was not that sharp, then a good high rush of adrenaline. I surprised myself and my brother by not crying out at all- I just remember gasping a bit.

Jeremiah then did the same for the left nipple, and it hurt a bit more, but once again, it was a second of pain only. I was surprised that it did not hurt more! I was resting as he cleaned up when my brother said, "Ok now, you can cry if you need to", but I did not. My nipples felt big, pronounced, and very good. Every sensation was heightened. There was about a drop of blood from the right nipple, but nothing else. I felt very good, and very ok. Jeremiah went over how to clean them, aftercare, and salt-soaks.

As we drove home, we stopped off at the local store to pick up some water. My brother said that since I had just put my body through something traumatic, I needed water to keep hydrated. I must have drunk at least 6 gallons of water the first week. I calmed down a bit and went to bed.

The next morning when I woke up, I was in so much pain, I actually fainted. My head and nipples hurt all day long, mostly from the lack of adrenaline. I took some pain killers for the first three days, and after that, my nipples were just very sensitive- not painful unless I hit them on a chair at school or the like.

I made sure to clean twice a day, and did nightly salt soaks. I was surprised at how good it felt to do the salt soaks, and how much better they looked and felt after draining a bit in the hot water.

Now, almost four months later, there is no pain, I'm down to daily cleaning, and I still do salt soaks a few times a week. The "crusties" went away after about three months, and now I can even put gentle pressure on them- and let my guy friend enjoy them to a degree. It was a long wait keeping them from any sort of oral/unnecessary contact for all those months, but it was needed.

Altogether, it was a wonderful experience, with knowledgeable piercers, and I'm going to go get something else done for Christmas. The pain was not an issue for me, and the idea that I am shaping and forming my body to what I would like makes me feel so happy and proud. I would encourage anyone who's thinking of getting their nipples done to check out the place beforehand, meet the piercers, and take someone with you who will stay calm and knows a bit about piercings.

I can't wait to get my next hole.
