I have just returned home from an experience which I totally recommend to everyone reading this. I got my left nipple pierced, 14g stainless steel barbell with quite large balls, and it looks so damn sexy! It was also my first piercing on my body (I only have my ear lobes pierced once on the lobes, and that hardly even counts cos I don't even really wear earrings very often!)

I have wanted to get it done for a few years, and I finally plucked up the courage yesterday, called up the piercing studio and booked, so that I would actually go. I have read the various sections of BME, the encylopedia and heaps of stories, so I felt comfortable about what to expect. I also checked out the studio on the net, and they had a good website with photos of the studio and stuff that also made me feel comfortable.

I got up in the morning, excited but a little bit nervous and made my way to the piercing studio with my lovely boyfriend, who was excited as well. He kissed the nipple goodbye for the moment, as he won't be able to touch it for a while! We found the studio, and went up the stairs. I was even more nervous by now, but Seb calmed me down.

At the counter a really nice guy called Matt helped me out. Because I'd booked I got served straightaway, which was good because it gave me less time to sit nervously in the waiting room! Matt helped me choose the jewellery and explained the pros and cons of the different types, barbells, captive bead rings and the horseshoe type (can't remember what that one's called!) I went for the barbell – because I'm a massive klutz and can easily imagine getting my finger or shirt or something hooked in the ring and ripping it out!(an irrational fear I know, but possible!? I went for the stainless steel type with large balls because I like the look of it – and the larger balls make them a bit more visible through my t-shirt, which I kind of wanted. I'm not an exhibitionist by any means but it's nice to hint these things through your shirt, and I have found it rather sexy when I've noticed that on other people.

I waited a while while Matt sterilised my chosen jewellery and the equipment and was led into the piercing "cubicle" they called it, but it was really a proper room. Matt asked me to take my shirt and bra off, and I felt comfortable doing it, I think, because it was so clinical in there with the equipment. My breasts are quite large in proportion to the rest of my body, so I am sometimes uncomfortable with others seeing them, because they are not as perky as I wish they were! But once again, it was fine, and Matt was so nice I felt really comfortable.

He explained everything that was going to happen, so I would know. He marked the dots on my nipple, and took ages doing this, just to make sure that the holes were in the right place, and that I was happy. As this was my first proper piercing, not with a piercing gun, I was anxious about this but he did a really good job and also, of course, asked me for my approval. He measured my nipple, chose the right posts and put the clamp on, even making sure it wasn't too tight. At this stage he had to get the other guy, Richard, who worked there, to hold the clamp and asked me if that was ok. I said fine, Richard came in, and the piercing was about to happen!

I stared nervously at the ceiling (they had cool posters up there as a distraction, and it worked!) and Matt put the needle through. It didn't hurt initially, but then it kind of really burned and felt like someone was biting my nipple really hard or something. He inserted jewellery, and I only said fuck twice!! As I had expected the pain to be really bad, it was a nice surprise, and I looked in the mirror and it was weird that I was looking at my nipple with a barbell through it – not somebody else's on BME, thinking that I should do the same!

It has only been a few hours since I had it done, and I know the pus, and cleaning and discharge and gross stuff is still to come, but I'm happy so far. If this piercing is fine, and not too much trouble (I think it'll be cool) I want to get my other nipple done too, and maybe also some others on my body – it was great and I should've it a long time ago. Can't wait til it's healed.....
