So I had always done my own piercings. Since I have always had a liking for pain I would just randomly do the next shocker like shove safety pins in my body during class at younger ages or just inflict pain in other decorative ways. As both ways of expressing myself, and releasing pain. When I was about fifteen I shoved a safety pin through my nipple and well needless to say it was very wrong and I am lucky that I still kept sensation, however that piercing was ripped out by an ex friend. I had a split and I had the same reaction as I would to have a pierced nipple.. extreme sensitivity.

Anyways, my 18th birthday was coming up in April and I told my parents I wanted to get the piercings redone but professional. This is because it would be easier, but because scar tissue must be dealt with only by professionals! So My mom had called around places and finally made an appointment. Of course when my father found out, he flipped and threatened to kick me out of the house. So I decided to ease off the piercings for a while.. I secretly was planning to go alone. Without parents, without their knowledge.

So summer came around. I was already eighteen and craving a piercing. I had heard about a place from a close friend that was good for tattoos and piercings and I had seen previous work by them mere afters after the creations and there wasn't even natural swelling! So I called Needlewurks the day before I was planning to go and the guy on the phone was very nice and remembered my friend. He said that the owner would pierce me and it would be 60 dollars total, jewelry and after care stuff included. Automatically I jumped on the opportunity.

I called a bunch of my friends and brought them along and two came with me. The next day, after a twenty-five minute drive we got to Congress St, and then.. NEEDLEWURKS! Walked in and automatically I began to get nervous. I hadn't eaten that day and I was told to get quick sugar for the piercing before I blacked out. So I got some gum from the machine and started chewing. The guy at the counter automatically asked me what I had planned for and I said nipples, both. "cool!" he said.. so he told me to hold on as he was dealing with a different customer. So I stood there with my 2 friends, browsing around the front , looking at tattoos, and watching the apprentice busily sketch away at a new tattoo he was designing. It was amazing. I am still in shock by it.

Finally about 20 min later the owner comes out and tells me to follow him in the back room and I asked if I could bring the friends, he agreed and they kept joking around to get me to relax. Pulling out the 12g I just stood there as he marked me up and asked if I liked the positioning (they were perfectly straight) and I had no idea where else I would have em so I trusted him. He then was talking to me about how it was surprising I was going with 12g because standard is 14g.. but I told him I didn't want migration risk since I have a fairly large chest and I didn't know how much i'd swell. He assured me with my horseshoe barbells I'd be fine , especially because they are not american made, but imported from England. He told me that there is a different type of alloy metal they use that the skin doesn't react with so there is usually no swelling at all right after piercing. This made me smile because I could continue my normal business.

So finally it was piercing time. I lied back on his chair and he clamped first, the right nipple. It felt weird but I was definately prepared for it. He told me to breath through my nose and just focusing on exhaling and not tensing up. Suddenly I felt the needle shove inward and my legs kicked up a little from shock and then I kept laughing started by a little "eep". Once he slid the gauge in, there was a weird noise but then he backed away and started to laugh. He had never heard someone laugh when they got their nipples pierced, especially 12g! I told him it was just cause i liked pain.. hah so anyways..then it was time for the left one.. so I began to be like 'ut oh'..because 2nd always hurts worse 'cause you're endorphins flow like crazy..

So the clamp was slid onto my left nipple and automatically my breathing went off. It hurt a bit just for the clamp because of my scar tissue that was already existing but I just tried to relax.. he told me to take one deep breath and then the needle went in. This time it wasn't as much laughing but had a little yelp in it. I could feel the needle go through the actual center of my nipple and split the nerves as it passed through. He slid the last horseshoe in and then backed away. The tattoo guys from the front came in and were just like "hah so.. you survive those 12g" I guess they were expecting a huge scream. but I love them. And .. because one of my friends kept laughing at me during the time I was in the chair, the owner wound up making him sit down and for free of charge he teased him into getting both of his nipples done. (This would be his first piercing!) so he got 14g captives and hah he definately was not prepared for the pain but as long as you just focus on your breathing .. it is a memory definately worth living. Just remember to drink a bit of water when you step out of the room and walk around a little before driving home.

I was given aftercare soap which is excellent. It is now Friday and I was only pierced Monday Afternoon.. 5 days after piercing and the healing process is amazing. I clean the barbells 2x a day with the soap and other than that.. I still go on my own schedule with working out (stop when there is a pain though.) and everything is fine. There is no more throbbing like the random 1 second feeling of bruising I would have on the car ride home from the shop (this is your body adjusting to the new metal.) There has been no blood except a little bit of dried from the night after piercing (before my first cleaning) and now the barbells swing freely. Although it takes a minimum of 6-8 weeks to heal, I can already begin to feel the benefits of extreme sensitivity. Just washing the nipple with soap felt like someones tongue gliding over my nipple. SO! If you are thinking about getting your nipples pierced, I highly suggest it. I mean sure if you are not into pain it may be a bit uncomfortable at first while getting actually pierced, but you feel so much better afterwards!
