The female nipple.
Always a difficult piercing for me to get my head around. Did I want it done? YES/NO the debate went on forever with the main factor being breast feeding later in life, but after researching thoroughly I found that I had nothing really to worry about.
So when I finally booked my appointment for both nipples to be pierced, every second of my free time was spent looking on BME to read other people's experiences, most of which seemed to be ok.

When the day arrived, of course I was nervous, but I had the appointment booked for 4pm so I had the whole day to calm down or get into more of a frenzy. Having eaten my fill of Camden noodles by the lock, I arrived at Cold Steel about 15 minutes early as I was at the 'get it over and done with' stage. Then there was the usual form-filling and time to choose the jewellery. I decided to go for a turquoise bar and a pink bar, I thought silver may get a bit boring! Then it was time...

Julie took me into the room and asked me to sit on the bed after taking my t-shirt and bra off. She then looked at my nipples and explained that she would mark a dot on each side of the nipple with a pen. After she had done this, she asked me to stand up so she could check if the dots were still horizontal when I moved position. Then it was my turn to check the dots. To be honest, I didn't know what I was supposed to be looking out for, but I trusted Julie as she has done this so many times! When we had agreed that the dots were in the right place, I lay down on the bed and Julie clamped my nipples in place. This was the most scary part as now I didn't know what to expect. After about 20 seconds it was then the time for 'deep breath in... and out...' and then wham, needle went through and first nipple had a hole in it! I did have to remember to breath back in – after the initial shock of the pain had settled I thought, oh, breathing would be good. When you take your first breath in, everything seems a bit better. I had a cheeky peek at the massive needle with a cork stuck in the end of it, which didn't look too nice, then the bar was put in my nipple which did hurt a bit. When the first nipple was done, she asked me if I wanted to have a bit of a rest or whether I wanted the other one done straight away. I did sit up and have a look in the mirror and was VERY pleased with what I saw! The other nipple seemed to be ready for piercing a lot quicker and I had to take a second to say I was ready as now, I knew what the pain would be like! But in a second, that was pierced too, and the bar was put in even quicker than the first. Your concentration moves from one nipple to the other when both are pierced so it's easy to say which one was hurting more at the time as the brain didn't know what to tell me was hurting so I seemed to have bursts of one nipple hurting then the other one.

So what did it feel like? And was it really painful? I would say I have a relatively high pain threshold but this was painful. The thing that got me, was there was a lot of 'nipple' to go through so the piercing felt like a tear of tissue more than a needle piercing a thin piece of skin, like an ear piercing. However, saying that, the piercing was by far the worst part. After you get over the initial pain from the needle going in, all you feel is a bit sore for the next week or so.

Everyone who has had their nipple pierced that is reading this now knows that nipples are very 'scabby' piercings. KEEP THEM CLEAN and remove all those crusty bits every morning and night. I have only had one gross thing I can name, I got a blood blister on the inside of my left nipple – when this burst it bled quite a lot and putting surgical spirit on it killed! So I bathed it in salt water (which was also quite sore) and it was fine the next day.

Now, 3 months on, I am very happy with them. VERY happy.

One last comment though, when you get erect nipples soon after they have been pierced that is one of the most painful experiences! And you would never think of that would you?
