What can I say? I got the piercing bug last summer, as I was getting tired of only my 12g horizontal CBR nipple rings. I'd had them for about three years, having done them myself. I needed a new rush, and kept seeing so many awesome pictures and stories of people who had gotten double-pierced in each nipple. I decided to go with 12g stainless steel vertical barbells, which would go behind my horizontal CBR's.

I liked that sensitivity, as it was great during foreplay and sex with my girlfriend. The look of double-pierced nipples on BME really got me to thinking... how would I like to have some doubles too? I decided to go with it. It took me about 2 weeks to convince myself to pierce my nipples again, as I remembered it took quite awhile for them to heal from their first piercings, 12g horizontal CBR's.
Not having a piercing studio anywhere within 100 miles of my town, I decided to pierce my nipples myself. I know it is not the wisest thing to do. I got my supplies, had them all sterilized, washed, disinfected, and gloved up. Now for the good part...
I decided to pierce my left nipple first. It was the larger of the two, having grown since it was first pierced. In fact, it was larger than my girlfriend's own nipples. It didn't bother me at all that it had grown after the first piercing. I made a clamp out of a plastic clothespin that I drilled out a hole to pierce through, clamped up behind the horizontal CBR already in the nipple, and got a piercing needle in hand, and placed the cold, sharp needle against the top surface of the base of my left nipple. I shivered with nervousness, then pushed hard! The needle broke the skin, went into the nipple, and almost through the bottom side. The skin on the bottom side of my nipple was like leather, and was hard to push the needle on through. If finally did, and heard a loud "pop" and then a huge rush of endorphins kicked in. I followed the needle with the barbell, attached and tightened the ball end, and voila! I had a new vertical piercing! It hurt some, but not li ke I expected. I guess having been pierced before set me up for the pain, which I sort of blocked out. The new vertical barbel was awesome!
Now for the right nipple. I basically did the same things with it: washed, disinfected, clamped and pierced it. The right nipple was more sensitive than the left one. It took me a bit longer to get the needle through the right nip as the pain was more pronounced, and I was the one doing the pushing on the needle through my own nipple. Once the needle was through, I inserted the 12g barbell, set the ball and tightened it, and stood back and looked in the mirror. Great body art, I thought. I never thought in a million years that I would have pierced my nipples once, but twice in each one?
I did have a few problems with healing. The left new vertical barbell began to migrate toward the more-shallow horizontal barbell, until their flesh tunnels merged. This led to a bit of an infection. I eventually took out the horizontal CBR and left my left nipple with only the vertical barbell. I now have a double piercing in my right nipple, and a vertical barbell only in the left one, leaving me a bit asymmetrical. However, this isn't bad, since I'm not anal about symmetry. It looks a bit more artsy having each nipple dressed out differently. Total time for healing was about 9 months in the left nipple, and 10 months in the right one. I kept snagging the barbells on my bath towels. I'm a klutz that way, I guess. They would just about be healed, I would snag one, then the piercing would get "hot" and maybe bleed a little. Sea salt soaks and Bactine kept the piercings clear of infection. I had crusties for several months, but those are mostly gone now.
My girlfriend really likes my nipple jewelry. She told all her friends about me. Some think it's cool, others think otherwise. However, I like my nipples pierced, and that's what's important.
It's been almost a year now since I gave myself new vertical barbells. What's next??? Maybe a tattoo? I haven't decided yet, but when I do, I'll write about it too.
Be careful if you self-pierce. It can be dangerous. Be clean, use sterile equipment, gloves, etc. Use good aftercare, including sea salt soaks and keep the piercings clean. Above all, use good judgment in all matters concerning your health.
