Hi. This is the story of my poor nipples and how they ended up getting pierced twice. One of the shops I talk about does not come recommended, and you will find out why as you read.

I started college in the fall of 2001. About two days after I moved into my dorm, I decided I wanted my nipples pierced. So I called up a friend and we drove down to Solid Image in Deerfield Beach, Florida. I had never gotten anything other than my ears pierced, so this was a big deal for me.
After pulling the piercer away from the two airheads he was pretending to listen to, I told him what I wanted. He asked if I was in for both nipples or just one, and since I never do anything half-way, I told him both. He smiled and took me back to his chair. We discussed stuff like price and what kind of jewelry he was going to use, and then he asked me to take of my shirt and bra.
Now, I will tell you, my breasts are huge. No joke, I'm a 40DDD1/2. When I took off my bra, this guy didn't so much as blink. Sure, he looks at tits for a living, but come on! He measured where the hoops were going to go and told me to sit, that was all.
Since this was first piercing, I had no idea what to expect. I watched Ted prepare the needles and stuff, but only because I had the presence of mind to make sure everything was clean. I even asked the guy if he was sober. Just wanted to cover all the bases. As Ted prepared for the first nipple, I grabbed my friend's hand and told him to talk to me about anything and everything. I didn't want to pay any attention to what was happening to my nipple. The needle went through, and I was shocked. I barely felt anything at all! I looked down, thinking he was done, and got a look at this huge-ass needle piercing the tender flesh of my nippie. I turned away quick as Ted pierced the other and put the jewelry in.
As Ted discussed after-care and cleaned up the tiny drops of blood, I stared in awe at my "new" nipples. I couldn't believe I had actually gone through with it!! Little did I know that less than three months later, the nightmare would begin.
See, I was unaware that different nipples exist. Some have anatomical splits in them, some don't. Mine split. I had horizontal piercings, and without my knowledge, they were slowly moving forward through the natural split in my nipples. One day I look down and realize I can see the hoop through the surface of my skin. On top of that, my nipples were always sore and kinda weepy, if you get my drift. Obviously, something was wrong.
In a panic, I call the shop, only to find that I will have to take my nipple rings out. $90 down the drain, all because someone screwed up. It would be almost 2 years before I found out what that screw up was.
Fast forward to 2003. I am at Big Kahuna getting a tattoo. The guys working there know Ted, the fucker-up of Jessica's nipples. They are not surprised that he fucked up. What surprises them is that he didn't explain to me about nipple types and the different piercings one can do to accommodate them. Vertical bars were suggested, as no one has really heard of a vertical piercing getting rejected. I was a bit skeptical, as my breasts are my favorite body parts. They are, after all, huge and (did I mention) natural. I wanted to make sure that these guys were telling the truth. I mean, I already knew Garret was a good piercer, from an earlier experience, but these are my nipples I'm talking about!!!
I told the guys I'd think about it, and went home to discuss the idea with my fiance. He was unhappy that my first piercings rejected, but when I told him what was explained to me by Garret and Jason, he soon warmed up to the idea of letting me re-pierce.
So, I went back. I told Garret what I wanted and he went into the jewelry and procedural speech. When the time came to remove my shirt and bra, I received a much better reaction. In fact, he had a hard time finding the right position to pierce me from! Unfortunately for me, vertical piercing hurt much more than the horizontals did. Maybe that's because I have some scar tissue, maybe because I had no one to hold my hand. Who knows. I do know that I involuntarily jerked Garret's hand as he was inserting the bar in my right nipple, and almost had to "suffer" a re-piercing. Luckily he knows what he's doing and got the bar in with little trouble.
As with the first piercing, I stared at my new nipples in awe. But this time, the awe came from how good they looked and felt. Within two days the pain was gone and they were looking great. It has now been three months. Occasionally I get a twinge, and since they are still healing (nipples take six to nine months to fully heal), I get some crusty stuff in the morning. All that's natural, though, and I am so incredibly happy with my vertical bars.
My advice to those who may be considering getting your nipps pierced, male or female, make sure you know your options. Don't just go with what the person at the shop says because they are the "professional." Ted, the guy who did my first piercing, got fired not long after he mishandled me. Don't worry, it wasn't my doing. I'm not that spiteful. But seriously, be careful. Know what's going on. And listen to people when they say that a certain place has a bad reputation. They are usually telling the truth.
