Hi.

I had my nipple pierced just over 3 months ago, just before Christmas. I already had my ear lobes pierced, one cartilage piercing (which was ripped out – ouch!) and my nose pierced. I got my nose and top of ear pierced without permission, and when my mum saw my nose piercing she got very mad at me and grounded me. That was when I decided not to have my navel pierced till I'm 16. I had all of those piercings, including my nose, done with a gun. They all healed fine and I had no problems with any until my cartilage piercing was ripped out at the hairdressers!

I had wanted another piercing for a while, but I needed to get one that my mum wouldn't see. So I asked my boyfriend as a joke whether I should have my nipple done, and he thought I should. So I thought 'what the hell' and did some research on it. I saw that a lot of people said it was very painful, but I can cope with pain as long as there's a good reason for it! I decided to get it done the next time I went into town, which ended up being the day before Christmas Eve.

I went into Kazbah with my boyfriend, and asked about prices. I knew I had to have it done with titanium jewellery because I'm allergic to steel, and I found that Kazbah only pierce with titanium or gold. I went to a cash machine to get some money, and then went back to the shop. I looked at the jewellery in the shop till the queue got smaller, then told the woman what I wanted doing. As I'm only 15, I wasn't sure whether they would let me have it done, as there's no way my mum would have signed for me. However, I must look old for my age, as she didn't ask for ID or to phone my mum (they did when my friend went to get her navel pierced). I chose to have it pierced with a bar, and I paid the £25.

I was then told to go up the stairs with my boyfriend, and the piercer asked what I wanted piercing, and which side (left or right). I decided on my right side. I sat down in the chair, and asked the piercer a few questions about the pain level etc. He told me that he was going to numb it for me, and told me to lift up my top and bra.

He marked where he was going to pierce me, and cleaned the area and sprayed on the freezing stuff. Then I realised he was getting a needle out a packet, so I grabbed my boyfriends hand n shut my eyes (I'm scared of needles!)

I sat there for about 2 minutes waiting for the pain, feeling a slight pulling on my nipple, which I thought was him putting on clamps or something, I wasn't really sure. Throughout this he kept asking if I was feeling ok. Then he goes 'ok, you're done', and put a big plaster type thing over it. He then asked if I was ok, and started telling me about aftercare. He gave me a sheet with all the aftercare instructions on it, and I went away. I was surprised that it had been so painless.

When I got home later that day, there was a little bit of blood, so I cleaned that off with a cotton bud (q-tip) then went out again. There was no pain at all, even when I cleaned it. I made sure I slept on my back that night, but after that I didn't bother.

I did salt water soaks every day for about 2 weeks, then I got lazy and stopped – big mistake. I also started swimming again after a week, which probably wasn't a good idea. I looked at it one day and there was a little yellow lump next to one of the holes. I didn't know what it was, so I popped it. A load of puss came out, with a little bit of blood, and it was quite tender for a day or two. However after that, I kept doing salt soaks every day, and am still doing them now. I have had no problems since then.

I changed the jewellery for the 1st time yesterday, which went fine. I had to get an 18mm bar instead of a 14mm like I had been pierced with, as I had found the 14mm bar was too short and the balls were pressing against the sides of my nipple and making dents which didn't look too good. So now I have a nice blue bar! Yay. I put the old silver balls on it though because the blue balls that were on it were huge, and looked stupid.

The next piercings I am planning on getting once I'm 16 are navel (top and bottom), tragus and rook. I may also get a scaffold (industrial).

But anyway, I would recommend this piercing to anyone, as it is painless as long as you take care of it. It is also very easy to hide from people (i.e. my mum!) who don't like piercings! (She would kill me if she knew I'd got it done!) Just make sure you keep cleaning it, and it'll be fine.
