So I did it, both my nipples are pierced. I got stainless steel rings with little blue cat's-eye captive beads. All I have to say is, getting my ears pierced hurt more. I took an Aleve beforehand and was very freaked out because a male friend told me getting his one pierced was literally the worst pain he'd ever felt in his life. I think the general consensus is that guys experience more pain from this type of piercing than women do. If you think about the difference between a woman's nipple and a man's nipple, ours are really made to withstand more abuse. We also have more tissue there. My piercing sits at the base of the sensitive "erect" part of my nipple instead of going THROUGH it like a guy's often does.

Anyway, the person who did the piercing was Gino at Blue Devil in Tampa, FL. He was totally professional about it and did a really awesome job.

It went something like this...I go in, tell the counter guy what I want done and pick out my beads. A few minutes later I am upstairs in a little curtained area, with Gino looking at my nips to see what size rings to use. He cleaned my nipples off using some kind of antiseptic solution on a big Q-tip and drew little dots where the "entry" and "exit" points would be. I was nervous as hell the whole time. He took forever making sure the dots were lined up and then getting this little forecep-type thing exactly on my right nipple. When he stuck the needle through, I was completely bracing myself for horrible pain but found that it hardly hurt at all. It also did not hurt when he threaded the jewelery on. I felt some pain when he pierced the left one, but it was very brief and also not bad at all. Again threading the jewelry through was completely painless and very quick. To tell you the truth I kind of liked it. Of course, you are talking to someone who also has tongue and nave l piercings and a large tattoo over the base of her spine, and didn't experience significant pain from any of those procedures. I have not had any bleeding or soreness or anything like that from the nipples. The rings also have not been getting "crusty" the way some people report they do at first. I'd have to say this has actually been my best piercing experience yet. The tongue was pretty debilitating for a short time, and my navel was extremely sore and took a very long time to heal. Even the tat had a drawback. You know how you have to put lotion on a new tattoo? Everything I tried burned like a motherfucker, even though I used the blandest unscented products I could find.

My nipples don't hurt at all. They have this little throb to them right now that is not unlike what happens naturally when I get turned on. They are more sensitive now (in a good way). Nobody can suck on them for 2 weeks, and they might take a few months to heal COMPLETELY to the point where I can change the jewelry and stuff. I can already tell they will be able to withstand some rough play once they are healed.

Like with all my other "body modifications," my only regret is waiting this long to actually get it done. I researched it pretty thoroughly and even talked to a lactation nurse because I plan to have kids and breastfeed someday. Nipple piercing does NOT typically interfere with breastfeeding, you just might have to take the jewelry out if the baby has trouble latching on or if you are worried about the bead coming loose & getting swallowed (eek!). However a number of women breastfeed successfully with nipple rings in place!

Anyway, I am so glad I finally did it! My nipple piercings are 24 hours old now and not painful at all. They are very sensitive in a pleasant way and the nips are in a constant state of arousal right now. I can move them around, flip the rings up & down, even give them a little tug and it doesn't bother me. The main difference I notice now is how much more responsive I am to a light touch in that area now that I'm pierced. My nipples also look slightly larger than before. I am not sure if this is permanent or just due to some swelling.

As far as aftercare goes, I've been doing the sea salt soaks and washing with liquid Dial and Betadyne solution. I also got Bactine for its antiseptic and pain-killing properties. It doesn't stain clothes like Betadyne will, so it's good for if you have to clean piercings away from home or whatever.
