I have had a few piercings, 6 in total, and all of them except my tongue, I have performed myself. I get quite a buzz out of putting holes in myself, and the sense of satisfaction seeing the new jewellery in place after going through the pain etc, is somewhat more than when it is done in a studio.

Well, I had been keen on it for a couple of years or so, and even tried to pierce it before, but my god did it hurt. I had been scanning through BME at the nipple mods and t'ing and finally decided that it was time to make a new hole. I had come to the conclusion also that I wasn't happy with just a 1.6mm (14ga) ring, and having recently discovered the joys of stretching, I decided I wanted a big nipple ring. I decided to settle for 3.2mm (8ga) and began looking for the jewellery I wanted.
After much searching, I found a website which sold piercing tools, clamps, needles, anaesthetic etc. Being skint as I was, I couldn't afford clamps, or anaesthetic, and so convinced myself they were not needed, and proceeded to order a pack of 10, 14ga triple bevel needle blades. I also purchased a 1.6mm ring, a 2mm ring, a 2,4mm ring, a 3.2mm ring, a 2.4mm insertion taper, and a 3.2mm insertion taper.
A week or so later, my parcel arrived, and I was begining to get excited, I ripped it open, and examined the contents. At that moment I announced to my girlfriend that I was going to do it there and then, and removed one of the needles from the sterile packaging. I started to press it against my nipple, and with my girlfriend watching closely, I found it difficult to concentrate, and decided to wait untill i was on my own.
I left the house, and proceeded to the lab where I work, I swiped a few pairs of nitrile examination gloves, some absolute ethanol, and put my jewelery in the autoclave (I hope no-one finds out about that). When it was time to go home, I went quickly to my house and had a shower to soften the skin around my nipple, I locked myself in the bedroom, donned the gloves, and swabbed my nipple area with the ethanol. I removed one of the needles from the packaging, and thought to myself, "it's now or never". I removed the plastic tip at the end of the needle, and held my nipple firmly in my left hand, after putting a couple of dots on it, and checking the placement in the mirror, I went ahead.
I pulled my nipple out, and touched the needle against the first dot, I tried to align the dots, but without clamps I found it very difficult. I pushed the blade. OOUUCCCHHHH! the incision was made, and the needle had pierced the skin. SHIT, I had to take a break. After a few seconds, I held everything together, and pushed the needle again. F**K, I could feel it cutting slowly through my nipple. I pulled the needle out because the pain was too much, and thought I would get it done in a studio. Bolox I told myself, and shoved the needle back in to to the point that it had reached earlier. I held my breath, and pushed some more, it was nearly through, but jesus it hurt. "just a bit more"I told myself, and pushed it again, I could see it getting very close to the surface near the other dot. I had a breather for a few seconds, and held my nipple again, I aligned the dot with the emerging tip, and gave it one last hard shove! AAHHHGGG! It was through, I pushed it some more to ma ke sure it wasn't going to fall out, and rested a moment whilst I drank some water.
I unwrapped my ring from the packaging, and gave it a wipe with the ethanol, it was time to put it in.
I had heard that nipple piercings bled quite a lot, but I was not prepared for this. The ring slid smoothly into the end of the needle, and I passed it the rest of the way through my nipple without much trouble, infact, I don't recall it hurting that much either. The needle came away, and the ring sat proudly in place. As I began putting the ball in, the blood began to flow. I was very shocked at first, almost scarred, I thought I had ruptured something, I managed to get the ball in place without much difficulty, my nipple was now burning, but I was more bothered about the blood, it just kept comeing.I cleaned it up and put a dressing on it, and went around to my girlfriends to show her my work.
She was most impressed, although a little sickened at the site of all the blood, which hadn't slowed at all. I went to bed that night in pain, wondering if it would be OK.
Next morning, I had a shower, and cleaned all the blood away from my new piercing. I admired it in the mirror, to see that it was straight, the blood (which had pissed out all night) had finally stopped, and so I was happy.
Two days later, I had decided i was going to begin enlarging the hole (best to get all the pain out of the way at once I thought, rather than make it last months) I was in the shower, and the skin was soft, I removed my 1.6mm ring, and slid in a 2mm one without any discomfort. Nice I thougt. I repeated this again two days later with a 2.4mm ring, and again, it did not hurt. However, the 3.2mm ring was very painfull, and so I left this for a week or so.
A week later, and I was again in the shower with my jewellery, this time I used an insertion pin to locate the ring. I pulled out the 2.4mm ring, and began sliding the insertion pin in, it got half way and the pain became too much. I pulled it out, and was going to give up. One more try I thought, and went for it, I gave it a shove, and it went through, I located the ring, and slid it all in. The ring was in place, I gave it a wash under the water, and put a dressing on for an hour or so. No blood, not much pain, it just burnt a bit.
One month later, and I have my ring in place, I am very happy with the piercing, and am glad I did it myself, I hope this story will inspire any other would be DIY piercers to have a go, BUT MAKE SURE YOU ARE CAREFULL!!!
enjoy!!
