Almost a year ago I had both nipples pierced. From the beginning the left nipple ring gave me massive amounts of problems. For quite a long time I assumed it was just still healing and that the other was doing so well because it had just healed faster. This was ignorant of me as the left nipple seemed to have never left the initial healing stage, it was constantly bleeding or excreting lymph, and hurt almost every time something or someone touched it. I realized that it was migrating as it was only approximately one millimetre deep but despite this I kept it in for a long time. I suppose there were a few reasons to keep it in, one being that I was hoping it would heal, the other main reasons being I didn't like the idea of not having symmetry. After eight months it continued to get worse and worse until finally I took it out.

After removing the 14 ga barbell I had in my nipple I cleaned it with physoderm everyday until the hole completely closed and then used vitamin e oil on the scar tissue. I waited and waited until I thought it was healed, hating feeling uneven. To my luck I was going back to the town I had lived in where received most of my piercing so if the healing was finished I would be able to get my nipple repierced.

One of the first things I did while on my vacation was return to my old piercing place. I spoke to Amy, one of the tattoo artists about my situation and she said I would probably be able to have my nipple repierced but it really depended on the build up of scar tissue. I decided this was a better answer then a straight out no and waited until Karen, my piercer, was free. Again I retold my story and she gave me the same answer, that it all depended on the scar tissue. I went in back and she examined my nipple and was impressed with how well it healed and informed me that I could get it down now if I wanted to. I agreed and went back into the waiting room as she had one client ahead of me.

I had wanted it repierced with a barbell but Karen preferred to pierce it was either a captive bead ring or a curved bar bell. She being the expert I settled to be pierced with a 14 ga stainless steel curved barbell with yellow acrylic balls. Once Karen was ready she, my sister, and I went into her room.

First I took out the jewellery in my right nipple and Karen changed it to one of the new curved barbells and cleaned it up. After this she was about to proceed with piercing my nipple without freezing it which made my heart race for a second at the thought of the pain, and I requested that she freeze it. I told her that when I had them done before I had them frozen and, as I was told nipple piercing were the most painful piercing, would like to have it done again. She told me that she had hers frozen the first time they were pierced and chose not to freeze them the second time. She found the pain wasn't that bad, especially compared to the throbbing that happens after the aesthetic wears off. Remembering the exact feeling she was talking about I decided to not have my nipple frozen either. She said she was sure I could handle the pain after finding out that my naval had been pierced with an 8 gauge needle (done after I had moved).

She asked if I was ready and then began. First Karen wiped my nipple with an alcohol wipe then with iodine. Then, prodding at my nipple for a moment with the forceps until it became erect, she clamped it and put the cork in place. I breathed in and the needle went through. It hurt but I was surprised that it wasn't as bad as I expected it to be. I think my sister took watching the piercing worse then I did receiving the piercing, as she is very unmodded and had never watched something like that before. Karen wiped off the small amount of blood on my nipple and cleaned it up. After this she taped a bandage over it and I was ready to put my shirt back on. I thanked her and she told me to have a good trip.

I was surprised at how well its healing after the first few days. I clean it once or twice a day with physoderm and have had little problem at all. Pain is minimal, it has not been lymphing very much, though it has bled a bit, though nothing more then usual. The initial healing is going so well that I'm sure I won't have the same problems I had the first time my nipple was pierced, now I just wish I had the guts to get it repierced a long time ago.
