The only disappointment I had about going to medical school was I had to remove my visible piercings prior to my interviews. I had my tongue, nose, and several ear piercings I got while in college in Massachusetts. At that time, there were either no piercing places in Mass or hard to find, since they did not allow tattoo shops (nor sororities, since any house with more than 8 women is legally a brothel).

Back in 1991, just starting my undergraduate education, I met my roommate who had several mods who was all too willing to show me. Whenever we could make it to New York, I'd come back with a brand new piercing. First were my ears (on the helix), then my tongue, then my nose, but I wanted something that was sexually erotic. However, my nipples were sensitive and I really didn't want to stick a needle through them, but my roommate convinced me it was an excellent idea.
So in the latter part of my freshman year in 1992, we headed down to the city again to get my nipples pierced. We walked into the tattoo shop that did piercing on the side and talked to this heavy-set guy with lots of tattoos and piercings who did my ears, nose, and tongue. He's a teddy bear, but he sure doesn't look like it! Anyway, he told me to disrobe and sit on the dentist style chair. My roommate was there to offer support (she was broke and didn't come back with a piercing on this trip). I took off my shirt and bra and sat down in the chair. The man came over and opened a swab of betadine and "scrubbed" my nipples for about 30 seconds each. Then he took a cotton ball with alcohol to wash off the iodine based product. This instantly made my nipples hard (the cold iodine got me half way there). He then marked the area to be pierced on both nipples and he started on my left one and clamped it with a pair of slotted clamps. He pulled out a freshly autoclaved 12g a needle, looked at me, and said count to three.
"One....two....th-ow!!"
The needle went through quickly and he had a little trouble getting the 12ga captive bead ring through, but after 15-20 seconds, the ring was in and worked on getting the bead clamped. We went through the same procedure with the right one, but it was more of a "one, two, th-oh shit!!" since it hurt much more.
It took a few months to heal completely after taking the aftercare advice to heart. It hurt the first few days (jogging was horrible the day after getting it pierced, even with a training bra) and after awhile, it was fine to play with.
I tried several things with my nipple rings. My right right has been stretched to a 10ga captive bead ring and I've debated for a long time whether to get a vertical barbell through my left one. I've had them chained together, but it never fit right underneath my bra. I remember reading an experience on BME a few years ago about how a woman chained hers together and then chained it to her neck. She had a ring threaded through the chain that linked her nipples and another chain that went thorugh the ring to support the chain. I worked something out like that and it worked wonderfully. I'll wear it when I feel especially sexy or want to impress a certain girl or guy friend. I also tried chaining it to my belly button ring, but that never looked right. Same with my triangle piercing, but then I have another chain scheme down there all together.
Perhaps soon I will put a verticle barbell in my left and I really do want to stretch my right one to 8ga, but any larger, they will be visible through my clothing. Padded bras can only hide so much! Maybe I'll put a vertical one in my right one as well. But for right now, I'm content with what I got.
I won't tell you if you should get one or not. I think after 10 some odd years of having my nipples pierced and still haven't taking them out speaks for itself, even though my old roommate (who I still talk to occassionally) has long taken out her piercings. I had many experiences of pleasure with my rings and have had both boyfriends and girlfriends who both loved them and were repulsed by them. However, they look wonderful and feel even better. They are no longer as sensitive as they once were, but a quick tug on them still gets me turned on very quickly!
