Re-Pierced at Snakebite in Dublin.
I first got my nipple pierced about five years ago. I kept it in for three and a half years. Then, owing to circumstances, which I just can't remember, I took it out. Recently though, the urge to get myself spiked again had been rattling around in my brain. I checked out the BME website just to see what was going on. I wanted to see if anyone in Dublin had been posting their experiences or photos. I could only find two, but I wasn't disheartened. This time I thought "Go for both nipples" (I like symmetry).
So, early last Saturday morning, I hopped in the car and headed off to Snakebite on Abbey St in Dublin's fair city.
I was all set for this. It was what I wanted. But the closer I got to the door, the wider the yellow streak down the centre of my back became. I got to the door and walked straight passed. (What a Wuss). I think somewhere in the back of my mind, I knew I was going to do that.
After a couple of false starts, I got myself to the door and rang the bell. Once I was inside something changed. I was there for a purpose. I knew I was going to get it done, I knew I wasn't going to bolt out the door. So I just got on with it.
Once inside, The piercer (Rob) introduced himself. I remembered him from the last time. I told him what I wanted, (Confidence was just oozing out of me now) oh yeah, been here, done that, got the T-shirt.
We went into the piercing room and it hit me, that déjà vu feeling. The smell of Surgical Alcohol hit me and I immediately felt a rush of adrenaline sweep through my body. I sat down for a few minutes while he got things ready. We chatted and I had a good look around the place, the pictures on the walls, the surgical instruments, the clean smell, all made me think that I had come to the right place. I checked out all the albums of piercings that he had performed (Quite impressive.) He asked me what sort of jewellery I wanted. I told him that I wanted two barbells, but that I wasn't sure about the size or gauge. He took out a selection for me to choose from. Once that was done it was time to get down to the nitty-gritty.
On went the rubber gloves. I took my shirt off and Rob cleaned my left nipple with a sterile wipe. Unlike the last time I was intent on watching every step of the procedure. He marked the entry and exit points on the nipple and then put the clamp on. Rob told me that this might hurt, but there was no real discomfort. He got the needle out, making sure that I saw it was from a sealed package. He told me to take three deep breaths and on the third breath out he would pierce. I started breathing and the adrenaline started pumping. I could see the needle approaching my flesh it was as though the whole thing was in slow motion. I could feel my heart beating fast, very fast. Then there was a slight sting and it was over. I could feel the needle cutting through my flesh and it hurt, but I couldn't equate the pain with being something negative. I didn't realise that the needle was actually hollow and that it actually cut like a blade. At some point I must have closed my eyes, bec ause as I opened them Rob was putting the bar in. "OK are we going to pierce the other one." He asked. "What? Why didn't it hurt like the last time? Yes do the other one".
We followed the same procedure for the right nipple, but this one hurt a lot more. (Virgin Flesh) I'm sure Rob could see me wince as the pain shot through me. The time it took for the needle to pass from the entry point to the exit point seemed to be longer. But hey! No pain no gain! I stood up and looked at myself in the mirror. A big grin spread across my face and I could feel myself nodding "Yes I like this". Two nice shiny barbells in my tits! and Blood (not much, just a couple of drops) running down my chest from the exit point on my right nipple. How cool is that? As before I practically floated out of the shop. There's a lot to be said for endorphins. I wanted to rip my shirt off and show everyone, but seeing as it's the middle of February and a bit cold, I thought better of it.
Well I'm sitting here a week later and the piercings are practically healed. So all I can say is If you're thinking about doing it. Just Do It.
