I have wanted to get my nipple pierced for about a year now. Problem is that I'm a complete and total wuss. I've got virtually no threshold for pain. I passed out when I got my first tattoo! How was I possibly going to be able to have my nipple impaled without losing my senses?
At A Glance Author Den Contact Den@bme.anon When It just happened Artist Josh Studio Skyline Tattoo Location Arlington, VA The kicker came when my partner and I brought a friend of ours downtown to get his nipple pierced. I was eager to bring him, thinking that if it didn't look too bad, I'd go ahead and have mine done too. We stood there as the piercer explained the procedure to him, answered all his questions, and led him back to get pierced. Our friend did fine with it. Not much pain, no blood, looked good. Did I go through with it? No. Why? Because I was too nervous about getting it done on myself.
So 3 days go by, and I've been thinking really hard about getting mine done. I had begun reading testimonials online, looking at pictures, and reading more testimonials. I knew it was something I wanted to have done, and called my partner one day while I was at work to get his opinion. He wasn't real jazzed about it, but I was, so I kept reading stories and called a few friends of mine who were pierced to get their opinions of it. By the end of that day, I had decided that I was hyped up enough and just had to get it done that evening. My adrenaline was running high just thinking of it. I felt confident and excited, and not nervous at all. I picked up the phone and called Skyline to make sure the piercer would be in that evening.
I raced home from work, and was disappointed to find an empty house. I was so eager to get this done, but couldn't' go without my partner, because for one, he would kill me if I got it done without him, and secondly, I needed someone to keep me from hitting the ground in the likely event that I passed out. About an hour after I got home, he finally walks in the door, and says that if I REALLY wanted it done, we can go. 'Nuff said. I grabbed two Cokes (I'm thinking I need some sugar here), and we're on our way.
Fifteen minutes later, we're walking through the door of the shop. It had been over a year since I had been there, and the place has gone through some interesting transformation. It was always a tidy shop, but as I look around, I'm seeing floors so shiny and clean that I could eat off of them, signs posted about not being intoxicated, and no smoking in the shop, which impressed me. Most tattoo and piercing shops are as smoky as a night club. I approach the counter and meet Josh, the piercing guy. I fill out the standard form, pay him, and he heads to the back to set up. I'm starting to break a slight sweat at this point, but I'm feeling good.
Josh called me back while he finished setting up, and kept conversation going, which really helped to settle my nerves a little bit. Once he was all scrubbed up and ready, he asked if I was ready, to which I promptly replied no, but headed over to his chair and took my shirt off anyway. If I don't just do it, I never will. Once I sat down and layed back, it seems like I was only there for a few seconds. Josh cleaned me up, marked me, didn't like the way it looked so he remarked me. Then came the clamp, to which I was quite surprised that I enjoyed the sensation of having my nip gripped so tightly. Didn't hurt at all. As soon as the clamp was applied, I closed my eyes, Josh told me to take a deep breath, and as soon as I exhaled, it was over. Didn't hurt at all! Once I heard the snap of the bead being placed in the ring, I knew it was safe to look. No blood at all! I don't know why I hadn't had this done much earlier. Then the room started to get a little hot, an d I felt the color draining from my face. Josh and my partner were telling me I was going to be fine, I chugged some Coke, which made me feel a little better, but I felt like I was going to go down. Josh reclined his chair completely so I could lay back and relax, he cooled me down, and after about 5 minutes I was fine. I put my shirt back on, and headed back home feeling so proud of myself.
The drive home was interesting. As soon as I got to my car I started feeling the sting. Driving home, my nipple felt every bump in the road, every turn, everything. It was like my body had lost all feeling except for my left nipple. It wasn't an entirely unpleasant experience, just different. Later that night I took my shirt off so I could clean my new piercing before I went to bed. That's when the blood came. Not a lot, but enough to start dripping down my chest. Once I cleaned up, I put on an old t-shirt, and headed to bed. Then next morning only had a drop of dried blood at the entry and exit holes. It no longer stings, and I'm still getting a little dried blood between cleanings. But I couldn't be happier. I'm definitely looking forward to when it's completely healed, but I'm patient. I would recommend getting it done to anyone who has ever considered it. Sure my experience is probably pretty much like everyone else's, but I can't stress enough that it real ly didn't hurt. Well, maybe just a little bit, but my ear piercings hurt worse than my nipple did. And the best thing, is that my partner is now considering his nipple or navel, or even both! Woohoo!
