I am 18 years old. I got my first tattoo when I was 17, I had just joined the army. That was on Labor Day weekend of 1998. Since then I have gotten 3 more tattoos and 3 body piercings, counting each breast as one. In less than one week I got a tattoo redone, an add on to an existing one, and my nipples where pierced. I was scared and nervous for my first tattoo. But everyone after I just fell asleep during them. When I went for my first piercing I was nervous. I had always wanted to get my tounge pierced but I was to chicken.

My friend and I went looking at tattoo parlors for a print he wanted tattooed on his arm. In the process of him getting a tattoo I was inquiring on the cost of a tounge piercing, but kept whining that it would hurt. Then he dared me and called me a puss. So of coarse I had to prove him wrong. To my surprise it wasn't as bad as I imagined it would be. The pain lasted 2 seconds. And now I have something to play with when I get bored. Something to use as pleasure for others. There are more benefits having it done.

Then I eventually pierced my nipples, on a dare also. I had also wanted them done but was scared. But I overcame the fear and did it, with my best girl friend's support. I now feel better about my breasts. Because beleive me I am no Dolly Parton. However, I'm not exactly a piece of card-board.

Every tattoo and body piercing I have I do not regret. They each represent a piece of my life. And I am not finished. I plan on getting 3 more tattoos and working my way down with my piercings. When I get out of the army the first thing I am going to do is pierce my brow.

My mother used to not beleive me when I'd say when I get out of the house I'm getting so many tattoos. blah blah blah

But she's seen them all and does not show me any kind of negative attitude about them or my piercings. When I get something new done to my body she just laughs and says "it figures".

As far as when I was getting the tattoos and piercings. I made sure that all of the needles were sterile. I watched them take the equipment straight out of the packages. And they all used sterilized gloves. They all were patient and understanding and took their time in helping me pick out the one that was just right for me. They were very informational on the care of the tattoo or piercing. I'd viewed photographs of piercings and tattoos, and it made me feel more comfortable on trusting them with my body. Like I said I don't regret any of my body alterations, I should say, and like I also said, I'm not finished yet.

The reason I am actually on the internet right now is because I got busted with my tounge piercing. So as a punishment they are making me give a three hour block of instruction on tattoos and body piercings. I hate the fact that I can't express who I want to be in the military. AND I hate the fact they can't except me for who I am.

That is one of the reasons I hate the military. Because I can't be happy with myself and please myself like a civilian can, and they take that for granted. They may not except it, allow it, agree with it, or like it, but they can't change it or me.

That brings me to this point. You may like tattoos and piercings, but with them comes the consequences of prejudices in work environments and socially. I should know. You also have to consider that some men may not like women with tattoos. When I first starting seeing my boyfriend, now fiance'. I only had one tattoo. Nothing else. HE has no tattoos, no piercings. He does not care for females with piercings, or tattoos. But you know what, he loves me and excepts me for who I am. He has never asked me not to get a tattoo or piercing. He has never asked me to change for him like that, he know I like it and am into it. And for that he respects it.

All of my stuff healed very well. I followed the after care procedures very carefully. I went specifically on what the tattooist told me and I followed the instructions very carefully. And for that I was always happy with the outcome, which is why I guess I keep going back for more. Taking care of your new tatt and piercing is very important. It could mean the difference between a good memory or a bad permanent mark.
