Well to tell the absolute truth, this piercing was one that was done on impulse.

I'll start out by saying that I would not recommend to anyone piercing themselves, with out properly researching the procedure, whether it be simple or complicated. Don't get me wrong, I strongly support self modification, but I do NOT support idiocy. That means research the piercing, the proper tools needed, proper placement, and aftercare.

I honestly don't know what made me want to get this piercing. One day I was at the mall with one of my friends and his girlfriend, I just got the idea. I thought it was a brilliant idea... I mean it's kind of uncommon for guys to get navel piercings. I though it would be a funny thing to show people and make them wonder, since to the main stream getting a navel piercing would mean that I'm gay. So after I sparked the idea, I told my two friends that were with me what they thought of it, and they said it would be awesome! I called my girlfriend, Rebecca, and asked what her opinion was on the idea, and to me she didn't seem too thrilled, but she said she would decide if she liked it or not when she actually saw it.So I went to one of those common little body jewelry kiosk and I had to battle them down on the cost(I'm sure most of you guys know how that is), and eventually I got bribed into buying a green, and a plain stainless steal 14 gauge curved barbell.

After that, we left the mall and were on our way to my house. On the way home, we narrowly missed getting injured... because when we were sitting at an intersection (and we were only 3 cars from the front) a light pole fell down in the middle of the intersection! We were like, oh shit that was close! But when we got to my house, I started getting prepped, both mentally and materially. I set up my forceps (I like to use my septum forceps instead of my Penningtons because it helps line everything up perfectly), some paper towels, gloves, some alcohol, and a 14 gauge needle. I cleaned up the jewelry, and got ready. I first used the jewelry to help make the entry and exit marks, and then made a straight line from dot to dot to make sure its straight. Then I loaded my clamps with a rubber band to keep the clamps secure. After that I lubed my needle with some regular water based durex lube to make it slide easier. Then I got ready to push the needle.

When I pierce myself, I like to take it at my own pace for some reason... When I get pierced professionally I like it to go quick as usual. The thing is , whenever I pierce myself , It kind of freaks me out to go fast.

So I started pushing the needle in... and the whole needle pushing process took about 5-10 minutes. Personally, I thought this pain from this piercing beat my previous most painful piercing, which was my septum. It may be because I did it slow, but I've done slow piercings on myself before and it didn't hurt nearly as much as this one did. After the needle was all the way through, I threaded the green barbell through, and fastened the ball onto it. I looked at it in my mirror, and though it looked great even though it was a little swollen. I was a proud new owner of a man navel!

Later on that night I celebrated by going to my girlfriend's house, and showing it to her. To this day I still don't think she likes it, but has grown into me having it. It used to kind of bother me that I thought she didn't like it, but it doesn't anymore because it's something I wanted to do for myself, and she could just get over it.

For after care, I used satin soap a couple times a day, then I switched to sea salt, now I use emu oil. The emu oil makes it feel great, and it promotes the growth of skin cells. I highly recommend this product for piercings, and for stretching lobes.

It's been about three weeks now since the initial piercing, and its doing great. It's been doing the normal lymph drainage and crusties.. and it hasn't got infected once even though ive been swimming and it bieng knocked around alot.

But remember guys; don't do any self piercing without researching, and the proper equipment. The stuff is not that hard to come by, and it will make all the difference, and even make it less painful if you use the right stuff.
