My love of piercings started when I saw my cousin with her belly button pierced. I had wanted to get my belly button pierced since i was 8 years old, but was never allowed it. I had to settle with a few pathetic ear piercings for years.

After years of constant begging, my mother finally agreed to letting me get it done for my 13 th birthday. I was so excited, and began asking anyone who had it done if it hurt. Most people told me no but when I arrived at the tattoo and body piercing shop I was so nervous.

I took my best friend with me for a bit of support and as she already had her belly button pierced, she kept reassuring me I would only feel a slight pinch.

I got in the shop, and we looked round at the thousands of tattoos and photos. Its very open, you can see everything going on so for a while I watched someone have a tattoo. When they finished up with the tattoo, I told the lady in the shop I wanted my belly button pierced, only to be turned down because I was under age!

About six months later, two of my other friends said that they had found this really great piercing place, which was quite cheap and really nice.

They had their belly buttons pierced there as well, as they did not ask to prove you were over 18, so I was like great, I can finally get mine done.

It turned out to be a room in the back of a hairdressers, but it looked pretty clean, so I called up to make my appointment and put down a deposit.

When I arrived at the place, I had mixed feelings, I tried to look excited when really I wanted to run out.

The piercer arrived and went straight into the room at the back. I could see the piercer doing something, and when she called my in, I asked for my friend to come with me, but the room was "too small!" I was so scared, I ended up walking into a a set of shelves and knocking every thing flying.Great start.

I went in alone, and she asked me to lift up my top and she put on gloves and cleaned my stomach and belly button with a watery cleanser. She took out a pen, which to be honest looked like a kids felt tip pen, and marked up where she would pierce me, and asked if I thought she had done the dots straight. Then she told me to lie on the very uncomfortable hospital style bed.

She took out the piercing needle which was sealed in a plastic container and she showed me her breaking the seal around the container, whilst she explained the procedure to me. I had heard that piercers usually use clamps but she did not use anything.

I shut my eyes really tight and breathed in.... Next thing, I looked down and there was a huge needle sticking through my belly button. I was totally amazed, I had felt nothing! But oh my gosh I felt sick seeing the needle poking through.

I told the piercer how relieved I was it was over, and that it did not hurt at all. She just laughed at me. She pushed through the belly bar and pulled the tube out with a huge pair of scissors. Then she cleaned it up with this brown disinfectant and stuck a plaster over it.

She told me to leave the plaster on for a few hours, and to clean it twice daily with Betadine, not to remove the bar for 3 months, and to twist it regularly but not play with it.

Of course, being me, I payed, rushed out, and ripped the plaster off

straight away to show a group of mates waiting outside for me. The first thing I said was "What was I so worried about!" I was really pleased.

That night it was a bit sore, and I could not sleep on my stomach, but it was nothing major, I did not need to take paracetamol or anything. After about a day it was fine.

I ended up forgetting to clean it after about 2 weeks, and I changed the bar after a month, but it has turned out fine, although I do not recommend forgetting to clean it, as my friend did the same and hers got infected and she had to take it out, and has had a huge red scar ever since.

It certainly does not inter fear with anything such as: P.E or getting it caught on belts or clothes, which is what I had heard from a few people.

I have had it done for over a year now, and have had no problems and I cant wait to get pierced again!
