I've wanted my belly button pierced since I was about 21 or 22 I'd say. But I always thought I was too fat for it. I don't have the cute flat tummy that most girls have. I figured if I wasn't gonna wear low cut jeans or hi cut shirts and nobody would see it then why bother? I figured why spend the money on something nobody will ever see. I never stopped to think that the only person who needed to see it, my hubby would think it was extremely sexy no matter what size it was. So my plan was always to wait until I lost weight. Well, of course I ended up having 2 kids and didn't lose the weight right away.

She's about that same size as me and I was like "Well if she can do it then so can I" She was showing me all her cute jewelry, she had all kinds, dolphins, cats, anything you could imagine, she had it and I was so excited to get it done. I started looking at jewelry online and making all kinds of plans to get the lower navel and the sides done too and eventually, when I got skinny, get some sort of tattoo around the navel, probably dolphins or something.
So a few months later I finally got the money saved up and went to get it done. I was a little nervous but it wasn't too bad because needles don't bother me at all. Pain scares me a little bit but I figured if I can handle the pain of getting two tattoos I can handle this. It only hurt for maybe a second. My piercer was awesome, turns out he was a childhood friend that I hadn't seen in years so that was kinda cool.
Unfortunately this first piercing gave me all kinds of problems. Come to find out later it was all my fault. I just couldn't leave it alone. I was constantly picking at the crusties. I'm a picker, you know, one of those sick twisted people who has to pick at the dead skin on a sunburn and stuff. I also am a tummy sleeper and didn't realize until now that sleeping on your stomach can cause irritation and delay healing. I left it in for 9 months, I didn't want to give up on it. I didn't even change out the jewelry until it had been 8 months. I just kept waiting for it to heal and couldn't figure out why it was still red and swollen and painful. Well duh, maybe if I would have left it alone! Anyway, I decided I was gonna try to be cool and change the captive bead ring myself and this is where I really messed things up, actually I had my hubby take it out.
We got the ring out without any problems. I was all excited about my cute little Spongebob barbell that I had bought for it. Much to my disappointment, Spongebob was too small. So here I was with the ring out and a barbell that didn't fit. I tried to keep it in but it was sooo painful. So instead of doing the smart thing and going to my piercing studio and getting something that fit right I just gave up on it.
That was a year ago. After doing alot of research and seeing all my friends cute little piercings I realized I was the one that messed things up and 3 weeks ago I went and got it done again. It was a little more painful than the first one, probably because of the scar tissue.
So, this time around I have been really good, no touching it other than in the shower for cleaning. It's still a little swollen around the top hole and sometimes it bleeds a little bit but there is no pain at all. I'm gonna start doing sea salt soaks once a day to help with the healing process. Oh and I've lost 30 pounds since my first piercing so this one looks better and I'm not afraid to show it off! My hubby loves it! Neither one of us can wait until its healed and I can wear all the cute, sexy jewelry. And I still want that Spongebob one, only this time I'll make sure to get one that fits right.
I can't wait to go get the lower part and the sides done and show off my awesome new belly!
Moral of the story...listen to your piercer and don't touch it until its fully healed!
