Well I know when I was planning for my first piercing reading all of these stories really helped me out a lot! It prepared me. I knew what to expect and how a good piercing should go. I have now decided to share my own story in hopes of helping others.
At A Glance Author Hill Contact Hill@bme.anon When N/A Artist sorry dont know his name Studio Skinovations Location Jackson, TN Like most child I had my ear lobes pierced but around the age of 14 navel piercing really started to catch my eye. A lot of girls my age had theirs done and I loved the way it looked. I begged my mother to let me get mine done and of course she said no. However I somehow managed to talk my dad into taking me. One day he picked me up after school and took me to our local piercing and tattoo parlor. We had to wait a few minutes for the guy to finish a tattoo. I wish I had found this site back then because I would have known what to look for and what should have happened. The only thing I noticed that the guy did wrong was that I never say him open sterile packages. All of the equipment was already laid out when I went back to the room. Well I went through with the procedure and walked out as happy as I could be with my new piercing. All was well for about a year when I noticed my piercing had moved. I ended up finding out it had migrated and took it out.
I let it heal and about 3 years later I decided I wanted to try and get it done one more time. I found BME and did a lot of research. I found out what to expect. This time I was bound and determined to not let anything go wrong with my piercing. I was a little more nervous about the pain this time than I was the last. Since I had already had it done once before I had some scar tissue that was going to have to be pierced. I read on here and quite a few people said that it does hurt a little bit more but not so much you cant handle. Well yesterday I got up my courage and went to have it done.
I walked into the studio and checked everything out like you know the studio looked clean and things of that nature. I told the guy sitting at the counter I wanted to get my navel pierced and he gave me some paper work to fill out which is always fun! I asked the piercer several questions. My main concern was the pain factor I am a major wimp and cannot handle pain very well. I would not have even thought about it if it were not for the scar tissue. He told me it might hurt a little bit more than it did the first time I had it done. Well I finished my paperwork and followed him back to the piercing room.
I watched as he set everything up. He got the needle and forceps out of sterile unopened packages. He cleaned my navel with betadine and then proceeded to mark my belly button and told me he would pierce it slightly deeper so he could avoid as much of the scar tissue as possible and also that since I had problems with migration earlier the scar tissue might actually help to hold the piercing in place. I looked at the placement and told him it looked great. Then I laid down while he clamped my belly button. A lot of people say the clamp hurts worse but I disagree I barely even felt it. Then he told me to take two deep breaths and he would pierce me. I felt the needle but surprisingly it didn't hurt. In fact it hurt much less than my first experience. Then he put in my jewelry and screwed on the ball. I looked at it and was so happy with it. It's been about a day and its looking great. A little swollen but not very red. I've been washing it twice a day with dial soap and doing sea salt soaks. I'm determined to not let anything happen to this one especially not infection. I would recommend this piercing to anyone looking to get a piercing. Yes it takes a lot of time and TLC but its well worth it. For those worried about the pain: No it isn't completely painless. But it does not hurt so bad that you cant stand it. Its pain yes. But it's a good pain. I hope to enjoy my navel ring for a long time to come.
I hope my experience has helped someone make a wiser decision about piercing. If you have any questions please e-mail me and I'll answer any question that you have!
