I love piercings and tattoos, but I'm underage, so my ability to get them is limited. After 2 months of me begging, my mom finally decided to let me get my belly button pierced. She said I could because it would always be covered (right, mom, I never show my midriff). I was a freshman in high school, and 14 years old. I was so excited.
At A Glance Author andrea Contact andrea@bme.anon When Two years ago Studio Tye Dye Tattoo Location Knoxville, TN I called all the local tattoo / piercing studios to ask about the age limit, who has to be with you, what you need to bring, how much it cost, etc. I also talked to a couple people I knew that had it done to tell me about what happened when they got it done. I'm one of those people who always to be perfectly prepared for everything. And I think when your poking holes in your body, you should be prepared.
I finally decided to go to Tye Dye Tattoo for my very first body piercing! I of course recruited my 2 best friends to go with me. One of them couldn't make it because of an after school thing. So After school one day, my mom took me and my best friend to Tye Dye. I was kind of nervous, but more excited. Me and my mom went in and signed all the paperwork, saying she was my guardian, I was 14 (you had to be at least 14 to get anything pierced), and whatnot. We paid and then my mom left, she didn't want to watch. So Kaelin, my best friend, and I went to the back area.
They had a bunch of chairs in a rows on each side of the room. And I sat in the first one. There was no one else there, which I was glad about, because I didn't have to watch anyone else get anything done while I was there. The piercer guy opened everything in front of me and told me what he was going to do. He drew a dot on my belly and made me stand up and make sure I liked the spot in the mirror. I laid down in the chair, which reminded me of a dentist chair. I liked it where it was and told him. And closed my eyes. I couldn't watch. He made me hold Kaelin's hand and put the other one under my but, so that I wouldn't grab his hand as a reaction and screw it up. It felt like a pinch, it didn't hurt at all. It just felt awkward, because you're not supposed to have a hole in your stomach. He put the captive ring in and explained how to clean it. He told me to wash it with Dial soap and warm water twice a day, and soak it with a slat water salution every other day. He also told me not to touch it unless I'm cleaning it, never let my hand come within three inches of my navel. Then we thanked the guy and left.
We went to the store and bought some Dial soap to wash it with. I washed it twice a day with the dial soap and water. I also held a salt solution over it every other day for 10 minutes. I did this for a month, even though it healed faster then that, but I was told to keep doing it for the first month, just to make sure it didn't get infected. It healed very quickly and didn't get infected. I was able to change the ring out after a month without any pain.
After about 6 months or so, it got infected. There was a blood blister looking thing under the piercing. But I didn't pick at it or anything. I just soaked it in the salt solution twice a day until it went away.I haven't had any problems with it since then. I can't even tell it's there. I play with it when I'm bored. I think It's really cute.
Everyone at school was fasicnated by it. This was before everyone and their mother had it done. I was constantly being asked to lift up my shirt and show people. I went to a Christian school, so I got a lot of quizical looks. But I liked the attention. Some people were mad at me, because they were older then me, but they couldn't get it done.
I still have it to this day, and I love it. My boyfriends have all liked it too. I would say get it done, it's a good first piercing. It doesn't hurt and it calms you down, so the the next one, which might hurt a little more doesn't freak you out as much. It was a really good experience. I'm really glad I got it done.
