Well, I had wanted a navel piercing ever since my Best friend Rachel got hers done about two years ago. It was absolutely gorgeous. A couple of years before, my Godmother always said she'd pay for me to get it done as I have a good figure for it and my parents have always been fine with it so that was never a problem. I always said I was going to get it done when I was 18...

Years passed and I forgot about the idea until Rachel got hers done on her 16th birthday. I could never afford it and the thought was always in the back of my mind.

I became interested in navel piercing again a few months ago and looked at a few good jewellery sites and they tempted me more and more. Some of the designs were so beautiful and elegant and I particularly like the dangly ones! The last straw was when my other best friend Steph arrived at my house and grinned and lifted her top revealing her brand new piercing. Then I realised I could finally afford it as I had worked for a couple of days over the Christmas period, I had earned over forty pounds which I knew would be enough. So, I had the idea of going to the same studio as Steph as it had a good rep on the Friday after. I had left my boyfriend's house too late and the place was too far away to travel to as it was dark and only had an hour to spare, half of that being on a bus. I was understandly annoyed. I decided to go with my other Best friend Faye (I have three main best friends) on the Sunday but alas, the place was closed. I wasn't too bothered as I had expected it.

Then it was Monday. I met my boyfriend from school and got on the bus for the half an hour journey to Croydon. It was getting darker and I was getting increasingly nervous. As I entered the shop, it smelt of incense and I noticed that the atmosphere was very warm and friendly. The counter had a vast array of jewellery and I went up to the counter and announced that I would like my belly button pierced. The man behind the counter grinned and said, "Oh would you now! Ok!" I showed ID (you have to be sixteen to get pierced like that in the UK) and a blonde woman in a business suit explained the titanium bars and I chose one – it was a light purpley pink (it depends what light you see it in) banana bar. I then filled in a form and waited for the room to be prepared. When I entered the room, it was bright white and smelt very very clean. I paid for the actual piercing and the blonde woman left the room. I was left with a young woman called Tiff and she told me to tuck my top under my bra as she measured me and marked me although I don't know how she did it as my legs were shaking so much! She asked me if I thought it was ok and I laid on the chair. She put the clamp on really hard (it really hurt), I was told to count the cracks on the ceiling and then she told me to take a deep breath as she put the needle through. The pain was excruciating! I almost yelled out! And where she had clamped down so hard was making it worse and I still had the marks of the clamp for a few weeks. She said that I have really tough skin so it was difficult getting the needle through. It stung a bit when she put the jewellery in and screwed up the ball. I sat up dazedly and shakily and she went through the aftercare procedures and I wasn't paying much attention as I was still pretty dazed. She had obviously noticed because she asked if I was alright twice! She then gave me an aftercare sheet and I was free to go! My boyfriend and I had talked about getting McDonalds but after the piercing, I just wanted to go home! When I got home, it hurt "\Ãw€ë to walk and go up and down stairs. After a week or so, it wasn't as sore.

Nearly two months on and it's healing wonderfully! Rarely hurts and I have bought a new belly bar, which I'm not going to put in for another couple of months yet. Tiff said I shouldn't change it for at least six months. I am very happy with my piercing and it's gorgeous! I love it! It's definitely highly recommended! All in all my piercing cost £37.50. £30 for the piercing and £7.50 for the jewellery.
