Ever since I've laid eyes on the standard navel piercing, I had always thought it was a cute little piercing. Not too little, not too much, and very simple. I had wanted one for a long while, and having enough piercings on my ears, I was set on getting my navel pierced, so I began doing some research on it.

I hadn't been informed about BME, and damn, this would have been a huge help on this part of my information gathering spree. I often heard rumors from friends and family members that the needle used to pierce a navel was very long. I can't even take an injection, but strange thing is, I love piercings, so I didn't really give a shit and had already had my heart set on it. I looked at pictures to see what I was getting myself into, asked my friend about her's (Which she had to retire because of an infection, but is getting it repierced soon.), still insisted, and even started browsing online to buy navel rings for when I could switch the jewelry out.

After about a month of researching, I had to take it up with my Mom. I, being the opportunity-taking little shit I am, waited until she was in one of her pleasant moods and randomly asked her if I could have it pierced. She said maybe, which usually meant yes, so I left it alone.

A month went by, and I started to get anxious. I brought it up more frequently and began to annoy her. She just told me to check around for prices, so I did. A month turned into a month and a half and I decided to just drop it and bring it up at a later date. Shy of two months, I was at my friend's house and my cell phone rang. It was not my Mom, but my Mom's friend. She said, "So do you want to go do that today?" Not understanding what she was talking about, I asked, and she agreed to take me to get my navel pierced thirty minutes after our phone call.

I got back to my house as quickly as I could, friend in tow, waiting for my Mom to get ready. I changed into a pair of jean shorts and a shirt, as I had a dress on, and figured this outfit would be more appropriate for the piercing situation.

We left, as promised, and we headed off to Inkredible Ink. The place was very clean and smelt very sterile. There was a couple of people there. The guy asked what he could help us with, so I told him I wanted my navel pierced. My Mom had to fill out some paperwork, but we had to get a notarized form, meaning we had to walk two shops down, so that took another hour because the lady in there was being a bitch. After we got the notarized form, we brought it back to Inkredible Ink and we were ready to go. But to my surprise, I wasn't the only one getting my navel pierced, but my Mom was too!

Once all of that was out of the way, it was time for us to get pierced. The guy asked each of us what we wanted to use for jewelry. We both chose a 14 gauge CBR, because it was cheaper and it would be easier to clean. What sucks is, we didn't get to choose the bead, and we got stuck with standard silver ones. No big deal, though.

Pete then examined my navel before we went into the piercing room and I asked him if it would hurt. He pinched my navel lightly and said that that would be all I'd feel and that would be from the clamps.

I was first to go in. I must admit, I started to get a little nervous at this point. Pete told me to lean back on the table, in a rather uncomfortable position. I saw him removing a needle, a pair of gloves, and a CBR from a sterile package. He cleaned the area with a sterile wipe. He did not mark where I would be pierced. Instead, he clamped my navel and I didn't feel a thing.

Now came the moment of truth. He was about to pierce me. I don't know what came over me, but I jumped off the table when I got a closer look at the needle. I just said, "WHOA, WHOA, WHOA, WHOA, WHOA...That needle." My Mom told me I was now going through with it if I liked it or not because she had already paid and went through the trouble of almost getting into a catfight with the lady two shops over to get the notarized form.

I got back on the table and my friend covered my eyes. Painless! I didn't feel a thing! All of that drama for NOTHING. Pete said I might feel some pressure while he put the jewelry in, but I didn't even feel that.

I jumped up off the table when he said it was all over and examined my new piercing in the mirror. He went over care for the piercing and then it was my Mom's turn, who didn't even let it bother her the slightest. We were done!

All in all, this piercing is great. Mine is now four months old and I changed to a barbell of my choice on Christmas. Everyone says it's a pain to heal, but I've had no trouble. It looks great, and nothing has gone wrong at all. If you want something that's not too little, not too much, and very simple, go for this!
