I was very bored at work one day and started looking for tattooist in my area. I was all up for a tattoo and booked an appointment and everything, I tried to look for designs on the Internet and couldn't find one I liked. I also couldn't make my mind up where I wanted it. I decided to go for a piercing instead because atleast after if I didn't like it I could always take it out. I've always wanted a navel piercing but never had it done because I don't have the perfect flat popstar stomach! I decided I needed to do something empowering something that would only be for me.
At A Glance Author Hardy When A week ago Artist David Studio London Piercing Studio Location 37 (Basement) Berwick Street, London I found the London Piercing Studios in the yellow pages and decided to go check it out with a friend. It is based in Berwick Street in London. We couldn't find the studio because it was located around the corner in the basement. I was a bit hesitant going in because all I could hear is loud punk music. But I thought I am here now so I have to do it and no way was I going to act like a baby about it. We walked in and it was very cool, had the whole punk thing going on but in an arty way. I met David the piercer on reception and I told him what I wanted and then chose my belly bar. I decided to for a pretty topaz one. He led me to a private room I asked my friend to wait in reception. It was very clean, I made sure I gave the place a quick once over and made sure he was doing everything according to procedure. The floors and walls were clean. David put on latex gloves and produced all the equipment he needed such as tongs, needle, dish and bar from special sealed ba gs (I've forgotten what they're called). It was my main concern that he used everything which was clean and sterilised.
David asked me to stand up and he wiped my stomach and marked where he was going to put the piercing. I think he sensed I was nervous because I was rambling like a mad person asking him lots of questions on what he was going to do, would it hurt etc etc. I am not the best person around needles, and I could feel my legs shaking. I had my tongue pierced a couple of years ago and thought it can't be as bad as that pain. The guy before numbed my tongue but David didn't numb my navel. Although after reading on the Internet apparently its not best to have anything numbed so you kinda have to grin it and bear it. David then clamped my stomach with the tongs, which i stupidly thought was the piercing. But it wasn't he then asked me to count to 3 take a deep breath and he stuck the needle in. Although I can't remember the pain now I can remember thinking at the time it felt like trying to push something through meat. I think I let out a gasp and moved slightly he told me to s tay still. It seemed like ages before he actually put the bar in but it was finally done. That's it done!!!! I then got up and he gave me a leaflet detailing all aftercare etc. This guy was brilliant he was very professional and talked me through everything and made sure I was ok afterwards.
It's been about 3 days now and it isn't painful at all. It hasn't bled or anything and I've been bending over and doing stuff with it without any pain whatsoever. It did sting the first day when I cleaned it. I clean it with Savlon wound wash and wipe it with a cotton bud. The Savlon is working quite well and because it is in spray form it's really easy to use. I haven't been playing with it and stuff cos I really want it to heal properly. I am hoping touchwood that it will heal without any problems but I know infections can occur within a matter of hours.
It is the best thing I've done and its left me feeling so confident! I didn't think I would show anyone after having it done because I am conscious about my stomach but so far I have shown my friends and people at work. I would recommend it to anyone, it's the best thing to have done and it looks so pretty. I phoned my sister to tell her what I had done and coincidentally she had hers pierced the same day. She had hers done years ago but took it out. Her piercer had no problem piercing the hole again. Although she did say it didn't looked as it did when she first had it done.
