Hey everyone. Well i'm pretty new to the body mod scene & I have to say.. I dont think I will be leaving any time soon. Originally I wanted my tongue pierced. After many refusals from my mum, I asked her, what about my lip? To my surprise she said yes :)

These would have to be the longest 10 days of my life. Everyday I was on BME, looking at photos and stories. I also spent lots of time looking at aftercare, tips, do's and dont's etc etc, because no way in hell was I going to let this thing get infected.
The 10 days were up and it was finally the big day! My mum took me to Bankstown, and as we were walking to the shop I really started to get nervous. I wasn't really thinking about how much it was going to hurt before this point, I was more excited. But the thought of the needle passing through my flesh started to worry me.
We finally arrived at the shop, which felt like we had been walking forever from the car-park. I was shaking. We told the guy at the counter what we were there for. He said he will do it for me in 30 minutes. Argh. I have to say, it was the longest 30 minutes of my life. We went to a little cafe and I had a snack to eat, as I thought it would be my last meal for a fair few hours.
The 30 minutes was up so we head back to the shop. We arrived and he said "Let me go setup". So we started talking to a girl who was kind of standing around.. (she worked there). I told her how nervous I was and how much of a baby I am when it comes to needles etc. She said not to worry as its one of the lesser painful places to pierce on the body. Hah, yeah right I thought to myself. Ofcorse you'd say that..
He called me into the room and I sat down on the doctor like bench/table thing. I asked him to take me through everything as I saw things in packets next to me. He showed me the jewelry and the needle and so on and told me how the procedure is going to go. After the nerves even started to build up more he said "You ready?". I said yes nervously and I sounded quite unsure. But I knew I wanted this, and a little pain wasn't going to stop me.
He marked a little dot on my face and told me to look in the mirror to see if I liked it. I did. I then gagrled my mouth out with some strong mouthwash.. He then opened a packet which held the clamps and clamped it fairly hard. After much checking of the inside of my mouth, he then opened the packet which contained the needle. He told me to shut my eyes, so I did. I didnt really know if he was going to put the needle in without telling me so I was really scared and kind of bracing myself at this point. But he then told me to take a deep breath in. Oh god, here we go, i thought to myself. "..and out".
Now what your probably all wondering.. Did it hurt?! The feeling was really hard to explain. Its something you cant really type about. I felt the needle. But it felt like he was just holding it against my lip. It didnt feel like he was pushing it through my skin. Just holding it there. It was done. I really expected alot worse. Now if your reading this and considering a lip piercing but you dont like pain like me.. Trust me. It is NOT that bad. I really dislike needles. They hurt. But this didnt feel much worse than a regular needle in your arm. Im the biggest baby and if I can do it, anyone can. It will be like a sharp feeling, then a bit of a sting. Then a weird feeling, of the jewelry going through.
I had a look in the mirror after he was done and loved it. The position was great. The bar was sticking out fairly far, but not for long. Damn my lip swelled pretty bad. It is still swollen 3 days on.
The first meal I had after that was some canned soup. This was even a little difficult. But now im back to eating almost normal again. So dont worry, it gets better and easier. I have been soaking my lip in salt water 2-3 times daily along with spraying it with ProTat.
My lip has got a few scabs on it, apparently this is normal? And its also still very swollen which is normal. Try eating soft foods for the first day. Second day work up to maybe some soft chicken or maybe bread.. And third day you can almost eat whatever as long as it doesnt have too much chewing. My lip is great. It doesnt feel like its even in there. I love it so much and im glad I went through with it. Good luck to everyone whos getting it done, and to everyone who is considering it.. Go for it. If pain is the thing holding you back, it is NOT bad. NOT unbearable. And certainly worth the 2 seconds of a slight stinging sensation..
