Artist the female piercer
Studio All American Tattoo
Location Spokane, Washington
A bunch of my female friends had recently been getting madonna piercings, and I really liked how it looked. But I had not seen any guys in the area with this piercing. I went through about a month of deliberating whether or not I should get pierced. While several of my friends thought that I should do it, others did not. I finally decided that I wanted the piercing and did not care what anybody else thought. I just needed the money and some courage to make it happen.

I got paid, and had a talk with a friend who recently got pierced at All American Tattoo. We decided to go down there because it is a safe and sterile shop, the price was very reasonable, my friend knew the artist and she would get store credit for the referral. We drove to the shop, which is located on Division (close to the downtown area) in Spokane. The main tattoo artist was very friendly and helpful, and gave me time to deliberate whether or not I wanted to go through with the piercing. After about fifteen minutes of deliberation I decided that I would get it done. I was pretty nervous although I had several piercings before this one.

The tattoo artist was at the shop by himself, and he had to call the piercing artist to come down to do the piercing. While we waited, I started to get anxious. I knew that I wanted to do this, but some butterflies started flying in my stomach. The piercer arrived very quickly, and she talked with my friend (who had recently been pierced).

The first thing I did was fill out all the necessary paperwork, saying that I did not hold the shop responsible for anything, and proved that I was old enough to get the piercing done. After they got all the papers filed and took a copy of my driver's license, I paid the tattoo artist for the piercing and the jewelry. We then began talking about the piercing.

I decided I wanted the piercing on the right side of my face, and then we drew several dots to see where I would like the piercing to be placed. I opted for an area closer to my lip than my nose.

Then came the part you always get real nervous about. I laid down, and my heart started beating faster and faster. She explained what she was going to do, and after I said that I understood, she sent me in to rinse my mouth out with mouth wash. After swishing it around for several minutes I came back and she cleaned off the area with the product they always use (iodine? I'm not sure). Then she applied the clamp, asked me to take a deep breath, and then told me to exhale.

I had this theory about getting pierced. You need to tell yourself it's going to hurt pretty bad. If you build it up like that, the pain will not be too much to bear. Of course, there's always some pain, but if you make yourself think it's going to be excruciating, then it probably won't be so bad. I've had a couple experiences with this, one where I got my labret pierced and told myself it was going to be horrible. It wasn't bad at all. When I got my labret re-pierced, I told myself that it didn't hurt so bad the first time so it shouldn't be this bad the second time. Well, it actually did hurt a little. So I think it's all about how you approach it.

So when I exhaled and the needle went through. I had been telling myself that it was going to be pretty painful, and just like I said, the pain really was not too bad. It was merely a little pinch or sting, and that's all it was. She got the jewelry in and then gave me some advice on cleaning it. She told me to wash with antibacterial soap and to begin rinsing my mouth with warm salt water. If I had any problems, I should feel free to contact her for help. She thanked me for coming to All American, and then we left.

I loved how it looked. I was not swollen at all, but I was a little sore, but after about a week or two the soreness went away. I continued to rinse my mouth out with the salt water, and used antibacterial soap for about a month to make sure everything was clean.

This was a very good experience at a clean, professional and friendly shop. It has since become my favorite shop in the Spokane area for both piercings and tattoos. If you're ever in the area, please check out All American Tattoo on Division.
