It was May 14 and I had been looking at lip piercings at bmezine for a few weeks when I finally got the courage to ask my mom. Oddly enough, she said, "ok, call Experience the Beauty and make an appointment". Experience the Beauty (body piercing studio) was one of the few places my mom trusted and she knew about it because my sisters have had many piercings from there before. Although my twin sister got her tongue done from Soul Survivors, my mom didn't like Eric (the piercer from S.S.) because he was kind of rude.

Anyway, I made my twin call Experience the Beauty because I was busy emptying the dishwasher. I wanted her to make the appointment for Friday because it was a long weekend and not a lot of people would see me with a fat, swollen lip. But she knew that I wanted this done so badly, she made the appointment for Thursday. At first I was kind of mad but after 2 minutes I was beaming. What I wanted was a lip piercing but then but a barbell in it after my 2 weeks are up.
It was hard keeping it a secret the next day at school but I managed to only tell a few people. The few people I told said it would look awesome with my style of clothing, soft goth. Not like the poser punks who listen to simple plan and stuff.
5:15 pm came around sooner then I thought (my appointment was at 5:30) and before I knew it, I was at Experience the Beauty. The very open and giddy helper of the piercer led me into the room and my mom waited in the waiting room. The helper told me to rinse my mouth out with Oral-B mouthwash (this stuff is better then Listerine because it's not as strong but works just as well) that she handed me. I did so and then she cleaned the part under my lips with this orange anti-bacterial stuff. And finally Jason the piercer came in and introduced himself. Very, very nice guy. He showed me the sanitary needles and clamps, etc. because it's illegal not to. He got the ring out which was big but I knew from reading the stories from bmezine that it needed to be that size because my lips needed room to swell.
So he talked to me for a bit and asked me exactly what I wanted and where and he got it dead on. He asked me to lie down on the dentist looking chair so he could work better. He marked the inside and out side of my lip and let me keep the pen he marked me with and said it was a souvenir. As soon as I knew it, there he was with the clamp on my lip and I honestly don't know why people say that this part hurts the most but it really, really doesn't. Then the helper asked me, "Do you want to hold my hand? I'm charging you for it... just kidding ;)". She was cute. I held her hand, closed my eyes and he told me to breathe. 1.... 2.... 3... BAM! Well exactly "bam"... more like "sting", it didn't hurt that much but it hurt more then a simple needle. It just felt hot and it stung. I opened my eyes to see what I was missing and I feel the needle still in my lip. Jason says, "I actually think this ring is a bit too big, I'm just going to fetch you a smaller one". So I lay patiently on the chair with a needle in my lip while Jason got me a smaller ring.
Seconds later, he comes back and puts in the ring then he asked me what color bead I wanted and I before I could say anything, he said, "Let me guess, it's just a hunch but do you want black?". He was right because I think my black clothing gave it away. I agreed and he put the bead in with a little bit of trouble.
I thank him and I go to the waiting room and my mom liked it. She paid 40$ but I really wanted her to give Jason a tip but she only had 40$ exact. Remember to tip your piercers people! So we leave and I show my twin who loved it.
The next day at school, I came through the school doors looking all attitudey and people said it looked good on me. I love my lip ring. Its a week later and there's quite a bit of lymph matter (dried, dead white blood cells) but other then that, it's coming along nicely. I wash my mouth out with mouthwash every time I eat but I don't always wash my hands before I touch my ring which I really should but nothing bad has happened yet so I think it's fine.
