So I decided to get myself a labret. Why you ask?

Well the story goes like this; my boyfriend completed his full, old school sleeves (in just four months!) and I needed a little "pick me up" in all fairness. What a way to feel better, I know, driving a needle through your body...Some call it crazy, I call it the most wonderful of feelings. My first mod was a tongue piercing (story coming up) and since that one I've been addicted.

I pondered the upcoming mod for a few weeks and did my research well, (BME, local piercing studios, friends with labrets)and came to the very bright conclusion that a labret wouldn't cause too much hassle, if it was treated well and performed properly. Cleanliness is the key in all forms of modification. You don't want to end up with a nasty infection.

You hear all these horror-stories about the flatbacked discs growing into your lip, and I really didn't want to go through that! But my piercer doesn't do lips with CBR, you have to get a labretstud first. Scalpelling is not one of my passions...but hey; whatever works for you guys out there...I'm not the one to judge.

Anyway;I booked my appointment by phone for the next day at one o'clock, and went to bed that night with a strange feeling of content. It was finally going to happen! I slept like a baby that night.

The studio where I go for all my mods is a combined tattoo/piercing studio, and I know the artists quite well (thank god)

I wouldn't let a sleezy stranger shove a needle through my body.

Instead I have it done by a rockguitarrist/piercing artist. But what the hey, atleast he isn't a slob.

I was running a bit late (quite a bit) since my evil boss didn't want me to take time of work to get it done, so I had to do it on my one hour long lunchbreak. I rushed to the nearest pizzaplace around the corner and shoved down a veggieslice and a coke and almost ran up to the studio. I'm not the fittest of girls but ran anyway.

When I finally showed up (short of breath of course) at one o'clock, as almost agreed, J. (my piercer) showed me his latest tattoo, a huge koi he had gotten the previous day on his ribs (ouch!) I really didn't care about it, and just wanted him to get on with it. Quite rude, I know, but this was MY day.

He noticed I was getting impatient and suggested we moved on to the fun stuff.

We finally went into his studio, discussed the placement and agreed that it should be quite high up, close to the lipline, since I want to wear a CBR in it later, when it has healed. The look of a stud has actually never really appealed to me.

So, after some initial marking and clamping (witch doesn't hurt at all!) J just pushed the hollow needle through, from the outside.

I felt the needle cut through my flesh and it felt great! All my blood rushed to my head. It came out on the inside of my mouth with a small pop and then I just sat there while J got the jewelery. He slid it through (witch actually hurt a bit more than the pierce) and gave me some water to rinse my mouth with.

I bled quite a bit, but I think it's because I'm a strict vegetarian and that kind on nutrition tends to make your blood thinner. This is just my personal guess, and NOT facts. But many of my friends say this just might be true.

I was on my way after about five minutes and went straight back to work.

My lip wasn't swollen or anything, the whole procedure was completely painless. I was amazed. My other mods have been, well, not painful, but have caused more of a hassle. This time I could eat and talk like normal straight away.

I didn't crust at all the first days, but the small, sharp suckers started to come around by day four.

Now it's been a week and three days and I'm completely healed. I just changed my jewelery so the stud wouldn't damage my teeth. This is the most important part. Don't wear the longer stud more than necessary because it tends to damage your teeth by abrasion. This can only end in horror, but don't let your dentist scare you out of it.

Over all, it has been the easiest piercing ever. I'm 100% satisfied.

Have fun with your mods, but remember; make sure it's done in a clean environment by a professional and the right type of jewelery. Small gauges can cut through your lip like a warm knife through butter.
