I have wanted an oral piercing for a while now. However, my parents were not too hot about the idea. My dad especially. He already hated my other various piercings. So here it was a month or so after I turned 18 and I was ready to get my piercing. I told my parents a few weeks ahead of time so they could get sued to the idea and I saved up my whopping 25 bucks a week. Finally it was time to get pierced. I headed down to the koi, the only place to get pierced if you're in the Salt Lake area, and they were BUSY! I mean they have been less busy on a Saturday afternoon and it was a Thursday night!

So they photocopied my license and I autographed the slip and I was on my way.
For jewelry I chose a Labret stud to be placed on the far right side of my lip where the lip turns into skin. So that I could hopefully return in a few weeks to get the other side done. I sat in the movie theatre style seats reading the newspaper for about half an hour while a large group of people watched each other get there tongues pierced and brag about how much it "didn't hurt". Then it was my turn. I only hoped mine didn't hurt as much as there's didn't.
After the usual hey how have you been that goes on when I visit my piercer we got down to business. He handed me some lysterine type stuff to swish for a while and dabbed some of that yellow disinfectant in my lip. He only had to remark the placement twice and it was perfect. Then he told me it would be harder for my left side to match up with the right since it is easier to line up little purple dots then it is metal balls. I know he wanted to do it that way but I had no money left so he did it anyway. He also told me that if the school made me take it out, as they always try to do, that he would repierce it for free. I know this does not sound like much but for the koi to do something for free is like Richard Simmons dating Brittany Spears, it never happens. So He had me tilt my head back and he kinda straddled me while he tried to find where to push the needle through. I couldn't even feel the needle going through my lip until he hit the skin of my face. I rememb er thinking "is that the needle or the toothpick?" After it went through Patrick, my piercer, said "It hurts like a bitch huh?" and with the needle still through my lip I managed to mutter a "Not really". Then he put in the jewelry, which was more uncomfortable then the actual piercing. Then he told me to soak it with sea salt soaks two or three times a day, and with saline solution after every meal. So I tipped him thanked him and I was good to go.
Of course the very next day I got called down to the schools office and the first thing out of there mouths were "That's gotta go, and so do the other piercings." However, it is still in as of today, and if I get my way I will get to keep them. Who knows what will happen in the next little while though. Even if I have to get rid of it I will not regret it for one-second, and I will just go in after I graduate and have Patrick do it for free. I'd also like to add that if you get the barbell be weary that it as the swelling goes down your barbell will stick out pretty far, about one centimeter, making it look pretty weird.
So that is the story of my lip piercing. To anyone wanting to get this piercing I say do it. It actually does not hurt too bad, and of course I highly recommend Patrick or anyone at koi for your piercing needs if you are in the Salty Lake area. Plus, as always, make sure you know the place you're getting pierced is clean and professional. Don't just walk into a random piercing parlor and let someone with dirt under their finger nails stick an unsanitary needle through your flesh. All that will do is make you pay more money to fix your mistake whether it be at a new parlor, the doctor, or even the hospital depending on how bad you get it. If you have any questions feel free to e mail me. I wish you the best of luck, happy piercing!
