3 or 4 months ago I was in London with some friends who I had met through the BME site. For a few weeks before I had thought of getting a new piercing and a medusa really appealed to me. I read up on the risks, and read all the experiences I could find on BME and decided I really wanted it. The only thing making me doubt my decision was the fact that my parents, though accepting, are not too fond of my piercings.

When I arrived there were a few people waiting before me, so I had to wait, which unfortunately gave me time to get more nervous! While I was waiting I was also told about after care, which was to use a mild mouthwash and salt water twice a day.
After what seemed like hours, but was more like 10 minutes, I was called into a small room at the back and told to lie on the bed. I was really psyched up, and thought I knew what to expect as I thought it would be just the same as having my labret pierced.
She told me she would initially use a longer stud to allow for swelling, and that it would swell quite a bit. So I lay down and she clamped my lip, and then told me to take a deep breath. I squeezed my eyes shut and held my breath while the needle went though. She put the bar though and screwed on the ball. It brought a tear to my eye, but wasn't too bad.
I sat up and thought it was over...no such luck! She looked at me and told me she had done it wonky, but if she did it again then it wouldn't hurt at all, and would be easy to put right. The first thing that came to mind was "bollocks" and I asked to see in a mirror, because I imagined it to be slightly off, but not too noticeable. I was wrong; it was totally sticking out to one side. I was quite disappointed and was in two minds whether I should just take it out, or let her re-do it. I thought maybe it was fate, that I shouldn't get it done, and that it would cause more trouble than it was worth. However, I decided to give it another try because it was something I really wanted done.
So once again I sat on the bed, and she unscrewed the ball and took out the bar. I lay down and prepared myself again. She took out a new needle and bar, and clamped my lip again. I closed my eyes and held my breath while the needle went through once again. It seemed to take a life time, all the time I was thinking, "if this one isn't straight I'm going to scream!" She wasn't too right about it not hurting the second time, but it was no worse than the first time. She put the bar through, and screwed on the ball, this time it was straight (thank god!).
I thanked her whilst thinking, "I won't come here again" and left with my friends.
Whilst walking around for a while after it felt kind of funny, like the back was too low down. It started to swell up as well, and it hurt when I laughed or smiled.
When I got home that night, I got into a huge argument with my parents because of it (maybe I should have decided not to?) and tried to take it out, but I couldn't get the ball off. So maybe all the pulling and tugging on it made it swell up more than it would normally, but over the 4 or 5 days my lip swelled to about twice it's normal size, and felt very tender.
Eventually the swelling went down, and I changed the bar to a shorter one.
I realised it had felt too low down afterwards because of the swelling.
It's now 3 or 4 months later and has healed with no problems at all and I love it (despite all the trouble and arguments it caused!). My parents have grown to ignore it, and every time I go to London I'm told if I come back with another piercing the locks will be changed! One thing I'd like to mention is that it was nothing like my labret piercing. I expected it to be just the same, after all, it's practically the same anatomy right? It did hurt slightly more than my labret, and the swelling and soreness afterwards was much more, so if you chose to get this done don't panic when you wake up the next morning and look like someone's just punched you in the mouth! If you'd like to ask anything else just ask...
