I had been trying to quit smoking for a while and none of my attempts had ever been successful. My mom had been harping on me about it also. Finally I sincerely made an effort but when those all too familiar withdrawal pains set in I didn't care about quitting anymore. So my mom made a deal with me...if I had successfully quit smoking after a month I could get my monroe done (which I had been eyeing for quite some time) and since I am underage and need a parent to consent I agreed that I would try to stick it out. Two days before Christmas was my one month anniversary. Not only did I get to get a new piercing but I had also kicked a nasty habit!

This was not my first piercing I also had my eyebrow, tongue, and an industrial so I was not very nervous beforehand. I love my piercer. His shop is very relaxed and has great people working in it. Joe knows how to calm you down and has a great sense of humor so whenever I am going to get a piercing or jewelry I look forward to seeing him. He is also very sterile and will re-sterilize anything if you want to make sure of the procedure, I highly recommend him for tattoos also by the way.
I had to wait for him to take a break from a tattooing so his apprentice got the jewelry out and proceeded to give me the forms to fill out. Finally it was time for the actual piercing. His other apprentice (he has two at the moment) got things ready and we settled on the positioning after a little debate. Joe came in and checked things over then I laid down. He put on the clamp and told me to take a deep breath. If I had known it was going to hurt that bad I would've been a little more nervous!!! The pain is different for everyone and depends on the positioning but in my case it hurt a lot more than I expected. There was some hastle putting in the jewelry because unfortunately I am a bleeder so the stud kept slipping out and he could not get a good grasp on the jewelry and the pliers were no where to be found. They finally found the pliers and then the piercing was complete. I stood up in the mirror and instantly fell in love. What a difference in appearance it ma kes! I had to show it off of course and went "shopping" and finally went home to ice it because it was swelling pretty badly.
I finally looked at it the back was becoming embedded on the inside. So I iced, iced some more and took Tylenol. At this point I wasn't too worried. The second day the swelling was even worse so I iced it more. Well nothing was working and it was Christmas Eve by this time so he wasn't in the shop. I cleaned it really well with betadine and salt soaks and also did warm water compresses to get the swelling down but nothing worked and by this time you could hardly see the back at all it was so deeply settled. I was really worried by this time.
I called Joe and told him what was wrong and he told me I would need a longer bar to let the piercing drain but I didn't have any money so I had to wait until the next day. When I came in they picked out longer labret jewelry and took my old one out. My hole pussed and bled (it was kind of sick) and it hurt extremely bad to remove the jewelry because it was strangled so badly, but I lived through it. When Joe finally looked at the old jewelry he noticed that the apprentice had given him a finished monroe stud!! Needless to say the back was smaller and the bar was shorter. Not having another one to compare it too Joe trusted that his apprentice had made the right jewelry selection, so in the short Joe was extremely pissed at his apprentice because not only did he lose out on money for jewelry he had to replace but I also had to deal with an extremely painful lip.
Although I had a lot of problems with it, it is by far my favorite mod I have, or have planned. It is coming along alright now but the healing has been really slow due to all the trauma inflicted on it but I have high hopes. I recommend this piercing to anyone with the right face shape because like all piercing this only looks good on certain people. I particularly like it on people with rounder faces. Overall, if you want a feminine, delicate piercing this is the one for you.
