I was standing in my best friend's living room listening to Janis Joplin , and we were shouting to each other over the noise of the party . It was my best friend's eighteenth birthday ."Wow! It looks great!" I said as I admired her new labret piercing , she'd got it done that day on the spur of the moment , she'd mentioned getting it done but no one thought she'd go through with it.

I'd wanted to get my lip pierced for age's now but I couldn't because of dress codes at work.I already had hidden piercing's and piercings that were thought of as 'normal', but i wanted something else .
It only took two weeks before I was in town with my friend and had decided that I'd quit my job and get my lip piercing . So we went into BlueBannana in Exeter and I booked an appointment to get a hole through my lip ! I had to decide on whether to get it through the centre or off to the side. I really couldnt decide , i'd thought about getting it to the side as it was different to my friend's and also less people had it , but in the end I decided on a centre piercing . I was so excited! And of course to keep blood suger up I had to get some junk food for afterwards! Poor me ! A new piercing and chocolate! When I booked I also chose my jewlry , there was so much to choose from it was quite hard to decide .But in the end I decided on a purple spike.
I had a while to wait whilst everything was sterilized , so I sat upstairs in the waiting room with my friend looking at the tattoo's (our next trip to Bluebannana was for tattoo's! ) and flicking through magazines .Then the piercer came out and chatted to us about what to expect ,did i want my lip to be numbed or not . Aparently your lip will bleed more when numbed and also swell more so I decided to go against it and get it done without pain killers ( ouch! ) , aftercare and when I could change the bar for a shorter one.I was told two weeks but it does depend on how your lip is doing , don't be fooled into getting a shorter bar before two weeks is up , your lip could swell back up if a shorter bar is put in too soon.
So then everything went straight ahead! I sat on the bed in a room off the waiting room. It was all extremely clean and the piercer explained to me the importance of breaking the needle after its been used (so that diseases arn't passed from customer to customer ) and making sure everything is completely sterile . So I sat there slowly getting more and more nervous and clutching my friends hand.The pain is never as bad as you think it will be . I usually convince myself it's going to be terrible but it never is that bad so you always feel better after thinking about it . The piercer talked me through exactly what she was doing whilst she did it which put me at ease.I had my eyes shut throughout most of the experience but I did open them to see the needle through my lip then quickly closed them again!
But it was over in a flash it didn't hurt too much and looked fantastic! I was so happy with my new piercing ! The piercer made sure I sat still for a few miniutes to make sure I wasen't going to faint , apparently this happens to alot of people after being pierced as your blood suger level drops . But I was fine and was quickly out of there with a smile on my face and a very nice piercing , I made sure I stopped by my friends at work to show off my new piercing , they all thought it looked great . Then I went home to show my mum. ( Tip , if you live with your parents make sure they're ok with it first . There's nothing worse than living with someone who has a permenant hate campaign towards your piercings and so you . ) Lucky for me my mum gave up on stopping me getting pierced a few years ago she didn't like the labret piercing at first but now she loves it !
I made sure that I cleaned it after I ate or drank for the first week , then after that I cleaned it about three times a day for another week , then just once a day. Now a year on I still love it and clean it about once a fortnight . This labret piercing has been the easiest piercing I've ever had .It healed up so quickly and was less painful than my nose!I'd reccomend it to anyone who's thinking about getting it done.Oh and two weeks after I got my labret piercing I got a job in a shop where I can wear whatever I want! Yay!
