Ever since I was young (still am I suppose)I liked piercings. I grew up around them since my brother had quite a few, and living in Toronto saw them many times adorning strangers on the street. I knew I wanted one, but I didn't know which one with so many to choose from.

>From grade eight through grade 10 I wanted a labret done, but wasn't allowed to get it done. But in grade eleven I decided I'd rather get my lip pierced, mostly due to the problem people have with receding gum lines. But I still wasn't allowed, and threatened my septum with a safety pin (which still didn't work). So around my 16th birthday partly into my grade eleven school year I said I'd rather have my nipples due to the fact that my mom might be slightly more willing to give in. I figured she would give in because the fact that my nipples are not on my face, and obvious to everyone I met. After about a month of bugging my mother still didn't give in. So then I bugged my dad. He said sure, what the hell, basically right when I asked him (that would have been much easier if I did that first). I called my brother to take me, partly cause he knew the piercer of where I wanted to go, and he knew how to get there.

Once my mother realized I was going to get it done one way or the other, she told me I could get my lip if I wanted because if I wanted to do it might as well get the one I wanted more. So I called my brother back again and told him I changed my mind and chose a day to go get it done. So then I called Passage, set up my appointment, and was told to bring I.D. I'd chose on the phone a double lip ring, one on each side of my bottom lip.

Some of my friends weren't all that happy with the idea of me getting two piercings, thinking it would look odd. But I had tried it with fake piercing things before and liked how it looked, and it's more about me then them. Also I have this weird thing about symmetry, especially with piercings.

I had to wait a few days to go, and I was bloody well bouncing around with anticipation. I was in one of those good moods in which little could bring me down. I had to decide between three of my friends, because my brother cautioned me to bring only one. So at the last minute before I went, I chose my friend Alexa.

Off I go to get two extra holes in my face. It was about a 45 minute car ride downtown. Thankful I'm in a car not talking public transit because its cold out, and with public transit your bound to walk a bit. Now were all at Passage, me, my brother Lenny, and Alexa. We come in, tell them my name and look around the room a bit. There's quite a few plugs that I later learned Blair makes. Also, there's a few photos and things about body mods around the world. There wasn't much of a wait, about five minutes about I guess. So now I'm in the room Blair and my brother are chatting about people they know and old times. I get introduced, and then Blair begins to explain cleaning and the procedure.

First he begins to clean my lip with some red wipe thing (which makes the bottom of my face all red and makes me look "pretty" as I mentioned to Alexa) and then another wipe which took off the red.

So then the marking begins. He put the rings on my lip, and moved them around until I decided where I liked them. So he began to mark, using the clamps as a guide. But there was a problem, he found a vein where I was getting marked. Sooooooo we had to move the piercing, which took quite a bit of time, I won't bore you with the details, but essentially we moved it and checked again then I got some clamps around my lip. And the clamps don't hurt what are people talking about? My brother and Blair are still chatting through this, and Alexa goes "Nervous?" and I nod. I always get a bit nervous before needles.

In the needle goes on the right side,(which I chose to do first for no reason in particular)it hurt sure, kind of like a cut from a knife. Not unbearable pain but significantly annoying. I'd made a comment along to lines of oh no not another one before the second one. But it still went in. On the second one my skin held for an extra little second, making it a slight bit more painful but again not too bad. What I find hurt the most, was putting the balls in, because the rings had to be bent back.

Everyone in the room including me was happy with the result, and I now had two nice new metal rings with black balls on them. My mom isn't all that happy with them, my dad is sort of indifferent, and most of my family doesn't mind them, they find them kind of amusing. I've only had a half day of school, most people like them, some find them kind of brutal, and a few others of course don't like them but that's their problem. I've only had a half day of school with them yet (due to a suspension) so I haven't seen everyones reaction to them yet, but no matter what anyone says, they are staying in my face. I got a few questions over then already, the one I heard most had to be about the pain, or about kissing. Haven't figured out the kissing one yet I think they'll move out of the way. About Passage being my first piercing experience and first time in a parlour, this is only judgement by what I have read or heard. Blair is supposed to be an amazing piercer I personally thin k it is something he's good at. The place itself is quite clean, and nice. All their things are autoclaved, and they have decent music going when you go in and in the room where you get pierced also. The environment is friendly also. I would recommend it to anyone I know. This being my first piercing made me want more, but I think I'm going to wait, and make sure I don't get too many so I regret it. And finally about the piercing itself, it can be awkward at first but already two days later my mouth is accustomed to it.
