Ever since my boyfriend got his septum pierced I've really been thinking about getting a piercing myself. I was either thinking about my tongue or my lip, and after many hours of thinking, I figured a lip piercing is much more cuter. So I talked to my boyfriend and he thought a lip piercing was the best one to get. So now it was time to do some research.
At A Glance Author allison When Two years ago Artist jake Studio Screaming Needles Tattoo and Piercing Studio Location New Hampshire I spent 2 weeks looking up information about piercings. I went to tons of websites trying to get myself better equipped with what I was about to get done. Finally my friend told me about this site called BME, and I was forever hooked. I read every story I could find about lip piercings. Trying to get a better understanding(I needed some good information before I put a hole through my lip). By the time I got all my stuff together, I was ready to ask my mom.
One morning I went up to my mom before school started and asked her if I could get my lip pierced as a Christmas present. Immediately she said no, which I figured. But after many hours of begging, she finally agreed to take me to get it done. So we made an appointment to get it done a week before Christmas Vacation(which was a baaad move). I told all my friends about what I was going to do, they were all siked and happy for me.
Tuesday afternoon my mom got out of work early and asked me if I wanted to go right now to the studio. I of course said yes and we hopped into the car heading towards the studio. I was a little shaky at first, but it soon subsided. As we walked into the place, this really nice girl asked me if I needed any help. I told her I would like to get my lip pierced. She had my mom fill out some papers and then headed us into the back of the studio. I looked at some of the jewelry and found the ring I wanted and the gauge. They soaked it in antiseptic for about 20 minutes. My mom asked me about 10 times if I was sure I wanted to get it done, I think she was more nervous than me. Finally they told me it was ready and I sat down in this chair(which made me feel like I was at the dentist). The girl gave me a cup which had mouthwash in it and told me to rinse my mouth with it. Then she proceeded to mark the inside and outside of my lip. It was exactly smack dap in the middle where I want ed it. She got the piercing needle and clamp and told me this will only take a minute. She put the clamp on and told me to breathe in and out as she counted to 3. On 3 she poked the needle through, it hurt a little, but the pain went away. She put the lip ring in and told me it was all over with. I looked into the mirror and couldn't wipe the smile off my face. I paid her the 40 bucks and thanked her. This was the beginning of my nightmare!
I had pretty much no trouble with my piercing at all. I followed exactly what the lady told me to do with it. But for some reason it always ached when I was outside for more than 15 minutes. Because I had a clasp ring in, I liked to play with it a lot. I was outside walking with my boyfriend as it was snowing and I licked the outside of my lips and when I touched my ring, my tongue stuck to it a tiny bit. I pulled my tongue back into my mouth and it pulled my ring which hurt so bad!! When I went inside I noticed my inner lip was bleeding and when it stopped, they was some skin torn. It happened all winter until I could put a labret stud in it. When spring finally came I had no problems with my lip at all, I didn't even really notice it was there. Months went by and winter came around again. I didn't know what to expect this time, but to my surprise I had no problem with it. When I talked to some friends about it, they said they had problems when it was healing in the winter because of the pulling, and others who had it done in the summer said it was fine in the winter. I really wished I would have known about that before I got it done though.
So it's been almost 2 years since I've had my lip pierced and it's doing great. No more winter problems for me. My advice to anyone who's getting their lip pierced, do it before winter comes!! It takes about 3 months to heal usually, so do it in the beginning of fall or end of summer time and it should be fine by snow time. Thanks for reading my story...happy piercing!
