This all took place about 2 years ago. I was and I still am a pretty big fan of the band Coal Chamber. The band had a really beautiful bass player, Rayna Foss Rose...and that's when I first saw a Monroe/Medusa/Madonna piercing! I always knew about labrets and lip piercings, but I had no idea about cheek piercings. So, I got online and looked around for research and I came across the most wonderful Body Modification site, BME! There was a little section on the piercing, so I checked it out. I couldn't stop thinking about how beautiful I'd look with a Monroe. Being underage, there was no way I could get this piercing without a little 'discussion' with my mother! This was way back in the beginning of my body modification journey, no neither my mom or myself knew much about bod mods. I did as much research on the piercings as I could so my mom would somewhat understand my fondness of the Monroe. It didn't take too long for her 'OK'. I just ran down the procedure, the needles, th e cleanliness, the aftercare...and so on. She seemed pretty accepting of it, like she usually is. My mom is my hero! I'm so thankful for her. I know most teens aren't capable of making very smart decisions about body mods and thats why there is an age limit by my mom really trusts me to make the right decision! My mom always signed for piercings or tattoos.

I had already had my tongue and eyebrow pierced (yeah, how original!). I called Machine Heads Tattoo Parlor one day and made an appointment to get this piercing done. We scheduled an appointment for the weekend. IT WAS TIME!!! They day of my appointment came, and I was very ready! My mom and I had went out to get something to eat before the piercing so I had a full belly and so I wouldn't get sick. I get really nervous before I go in the shop, I don't know why, because in the end, it's never as bad as I thought it would be! I walked into the shop and Porp greeted us. My mom got really nervous for me, and went to go sit on the couch in the lobby! Porp took me right back to JJ's room to get things ready. I sat up on the dentist chair, trying to remain calm but It wasn't working too well! He took the clean 14gauge needle out of the package, and got the rest of his things ready. Meanwhile I was gargling with Lister ine. I hate that shit! But, I had to do it if I wanted everything to be clean and good to go! Porpoise was ready and so was I. He took this black pen and dotted my face for the placement of the piercing. I took the little mirror and went to go check it out. Perfect!!! It was in the exact spot that I wanted it in. I was more than ready!
'Let's do it!',he said! I sat up and remained very still so I wouldn't mess anything up. I closed my eyes, I could feel him messing around in my mouth with his rubber gloves just making sure there weren't any veins or anything in the way. He grabbed the needle and told me to breath slowly, and he would tell me when he was about to pierce it. He told me, and then he shoved it right through. Not very bloody, and it wasn't sore at all! He told me to hold on because he had to slip in the jewelry. He put in a piece of 14 gauge labret jewelry. It had a long post for comfortable healing. I felt stupid for making such a big deal out of it! It was nothing! I paid, gave a nice tip, and then I was on my way! My mom thought it was really cool, and to this day she doesn't even think anything about it, it just fits my face really well. It took about a week to heal. My upper lip was very swollen, but I was taking execellant care of it! A couple of Listerine rinses daily, I stayed away from rubbing alcohol, and peroxide (AND SO SHOULD YOU!!!). A few months later I was able to change the jewelry. I went straight down to a 16gauge labret thing with a white stud at the top. I still have it in. I love it.
If anyone is thinking about getting this piercing done, I highly recommend it! Even guys, too! It's a beautiful piercing. I'm still not sure what the real name for the piercing is though! I just call it a monroe! Oh yeah, THANK YOU, BME!!! Without BME I wouldn't be as happy with my body as I am now.
I.AM so thankful for body modification!
