Well, to get started, I would like to say that I have wanted a Monroe/Madonna piercing for many years. My sister used to be into Coal Chamber and when I saw that their bass player Rayna Foss had one, I instantly fell in love. I thought it was so beautiful looking and so original, and I had never seen anybody in person who had one. I was too young to get it at the time, but I was determined to eventually get it.

It took a lot of prying on my part to get them to say yes, but i DID get them to agree to take me. A couple days after school ended and summer vacation began, we made an appointment at the same tattoo and piercing parlor where my sister got her tattoos. Unfortunately, the appointment had to be a week later because that was the only time my mom could get off from work during the day, so I was forced to wait a long week. I went around telling people about it and asking them if i made the right choice, and fortunately they all told me that it would look great and that I had the right face for it, because it's a piercing that only looks right on certain people. There were some people I didn't tell though, so I could surprise them. I planned to take my two best friends and my sister with me, so they could be there for support.
Tuesday, June 25th - the morning had finally come! My appointment was made for 12:00 PM so i got up around 10:00. I was very nervous, because I never got anything pierced besides my ears. I knew I had to eat something because I might faint if I get pierced on an empty stomach. We picked up my friends at 11:30 and drove on up there. When we got there, the parlor had just opened. When we went inside I was pleased to see how clean looking it was. It looked really safe which made me really relieved. The guy who was piercing me copied me and my mom's IDs, then he asked me what I wanted done and whatnot, and I could tell that he had had previous experience with the piercing, because he was telling me a lot of information about it, like it was one of the less painful facial piercings and things like that. He gave me a cup of Listerine and told me to swish it around for 45 seconds. Then he lead me to the piercing room, and my friends and sister came with me - my mom didn't wan t to watch, so she stood outside
The actual piercing - I was very nervous at this point, because it was all setting in that it was actually gonna happen. The guy wiped something that i thought was iodine on my face, then he gave me something to mark the spot where i wanted it, and told me to go out to the mirror. I was pretty nervous and my hand was shaking, but i marked a spot and asked my friends if it was a good one. They both told me that it was perfect, so i went back. I asked the guy if it was a good spot, and he said it looked fine. He lifted my lip to see if it was safe inside, then he felt around. Then he took out the clamps and the needle and told me to close my eyes, but it was too late - I had already seen the needle, and I can say that it really freaked me out. It was setting in that it was going to happen RIGHT now no matter what, and I had no idea what it was going to feel like. He told me that he was going to clamp and then pierce me, and to close my eyes again. I felt that clamp go on, and then the tiniest sharp pain. I wasn't sure if the needle had gone through because it barely hurt at all, but I asked him and he said it had. Then he said that he was going to put the jewelry through and it would hurt a bit. But when he put it in, I don't remember feeling anything. I think I was too hyped up on adrenaline. All i can say is the part that I was most fearing was the pain, and there was practically no pain at all. It felt just like a shot at the doctor's. He told me that the labret stud that he had put in had to be a little long because of swelling, but i didn't care - when i went to the mirror i was overjoyed. I loved it. He sat me down and went over thoroughly how to care for it, and he told me that when the swelling went down I could come back there and he could change it to a smaller post, so it would fit me better. He gave me a sheet about how to care for my new piercing, and I left there elated. During the drive home I couldn't believe that I A CTUALLY finally had my long-awaited piercing - and my friends told me it looked great on me. I loved it. I had mny mom stop at a store to get some listerine and some dial soap then we dropped my friends off and I went home. I cleaned it off, and it looked even better after that.
Later that day I went with some of my friends to Philly and we had a great time - the piercing wasn't swelling at all and it didn't even feel sore. But when I woke up the next morning, it did swell, but it wasn't very noticable. My mom even likes this piercing, I thought she wouldn't but she told me she thinks it's pretty. My dad likes it too. Now, it's my third day of having it, and i'm going to a Good Riddance/Bane/Strike Anywhere concert at The Troc today, and it's going to be great. I love my piercing and i'm going to take such special care of it, because i really don't want it to get infected. To anybody who had ever wanted to get a Monroe piercing, I say go for it because the pain was nothing and they look amazing.
