About a year after getting my tongue pierced (my first piercing experience), I was trying to figure out for the longest time what i wanted next. I was thinking about getting my septum pierced, but then decided against it for reasons of me looking really stupid with it. I then thought about getting my eyebrow pierced because i had wanted that since I was in the eighth grade, but decided that I didn't really want it enough at that point in time. I finally decided on getting my lebret pierced because I had the little bit of hair under my lip as it was and it looked good on me, so I figured I'd get it done.

I waited about a month seriously considering it, talking to various friends about what they thought about it, searching for information on lebret's (which is what i do with every piercing), and proceeded to tell my parents that I was going to get it done. They were not pleased to say the least. After I got my tongue done they tried to make me promise that that was going to be the only piercing that I'd get (yeah, like that was going to happen). Though in the end they do understand that it is my body and I have the final say on what I do to it. I spent a fair amount of time choosing where to go to get it pierced, because of all the horror stories you here from others. I ended up choosing Tattoo Art because a girl i'm friends with works there and her uncle owns the place, so i trusted her judgement. So I then waited another week for my pay check from work to come, then went down on a friday.

The whole day was filled with nervous thoughts about getting it done, but i wanted it too much to care (which is what happens everytime). For some undetermined reason I didn't think that it would hurt very much, because tongue doesn't hurt at all. The thing that makes it scary is the thought of a needle going through your tongue, which in-turn ended up making me coming so close to passing out when I got it pierced. I always get somewhat nervous the day that I am going to get a piercing, regardless of its type, so I was a fair amount nervous. I waited until i was finished school, went and bought some records, and then went down with my best friend to Tattoo Art.

When we walked in my nervousness heightened, and I started to get fairly jittery. I told George that i wanted to get my lebret pierced and he gave me all of the usual stuff to sign. I signed it all and we went into the back room. When we got in there and I sat down on the dentist office looking chair I was at the peak of my nervousness, George was getting everything ready. Once he was ready to start he did what he does everytime which was explain everything he was going to do, marked the area he was going to pierce, and got the needle ready. I sat in suspense waiting for the needle to pierce my skin. When it did it was a fair amount more pain then I had planned on it being. And as it slid through more and more, the pain increased. As the needle went farther in my whole face had a complete rush of pain. The good part about the pain was that it took all of my nervousness away because i was so focussed on it.

Once it was all over with, George cleaned off the bit of blood that there was and told me the cleaning/healing instructions and sent me on my way. There was some swelling, but not too bad at all (not like my tongue that i ripped the bottom of three times the first day pierced). I wasn't until later when it wasn't healing that I started to get concerned. After about a month of having it, it would still hurt in the mourning's and other parts of the day. I didn't understand why at all that it was still being like that. I ended up consulting a friend from work who had had his for a couple years and he asked me how much i was cleaning it. I told him that I was still mouth washing after everything i ate, drank (other then water), or smoked. He then found that problem, because i was still cleaning so profusely I was not giving the cells around the piercing to heal properly, thus prolonging the initial process. All in all i am soooooooo glad that i got it done because I love it, and I have got many other piercings since, and am now working on stretching my lobes which i got pierced only to stretch.

Well, until next time...peace
