I had wanted my eyebrow pierced since I was about 14, but I knew that convincing my parents to let me get it done wouldn't be an easy task. It took more than a year's worth of nagging and bribing my mom, but eventually she gave in when I promised to remove 9 of my 13 ear piercings and that I wouldn't get any more piercings after my eyebrow. I didn't quite stick to my part of the deal, but that's another story..

My mom, my sister and I went out shopping and to lunch beforehand, but all I could think of was how I was finally getting the piercing I had worked so hard to get. The time eventually came, and we drove up to Instinct's. The girl at the front desk had my mom sign some papers and show her ID (I was only 15 at the time, so I couldn't sign for myself) while I picked out the jewellery I wanted put in, and she explained the aftercare to me. After that was done, me and my sister went into the waiting room (my mom didn't want to see, so she waited in the truck).
I was finally called into one of the piercing rooms and Jenna, the piercer, proceeded to tell me a bit about the piercing and the procedure. She asked if I had any questions, and I told her I didn't, and then she began to set everything up. She put some disinfectant cream on my eyebrow and marked where she thought the piercing would look good. She had me take a look to see if I agreed with the placement and I told her I wanted it on a bit less of a slant. She made the new markings, and I was happy with the placement. She was doing the piercing freehand- she said it would be easier for her, and there wasn't much meat on my eyebrow for the clamp to grab onto anyway. She pinched my eyebrow and put the needle over the top hole. I could feel the needle poking me, and I started to get nervous. Jenna told me to take a deep breath, and to breathe out when she counted to three. When she counted to 3, I breathed out and she pushed the needle through and quickly put the jewellery in... I didn't feel a thing! My sister expected me to scream (I don't know why, seeing as I have a high pain tolerance) and was a bit disappointed when I didn't. Jenna went over the aftercare with me again, telling me that I should clean my piercing 2-5 times a day with saline solution, and to do warm saline soaks. I thanked her, and went on my way.
I made sure I took good care of my piercing. I cleaned it like I was supposed to, and it healed quite well, but not for long. I'm in Tae Kwon Do, and in class my eyebrow got quite a beating. Once the jewelry almost got ripped out when I whacked my eyebrow with my nunchakus. I would always develop abscesses on my eyebrow, and even though they'd go away eventually, I would always get another one replacing the last one. I had even noticed that my eyebrow was starting to reject. I went to Instinct's to see what they had to say, and they said that after a year, eyebrows tend to reject a bit, but they will eventually settle in. I had been fighting a losing battle with my eyebrow for a year, but it all ended yesturday. I had to go in for a knee surgery, and I had to take out all of my piercings. When it was time to put them back in, I could get my daith, tongue, bellybutton, 2g lobe and 8g lobe in with minimal difficulty, but my eyebrow barbell refused to go in. And now, here I am, sitting in front of my computer typing up my experience with two big scars on my eyebrow.
Of course, it wasn't Instinct's fault that I had such bad luck with my eyebrow. They were very clean, and professional, and I was always welcomed there after I had my piercing done if I had any questions or needed help with any of my other piercings. I would highly recommend Instinct Adornment to anyone who is in Kamloops and is looking to get a new piercing. I'm still debating whether or not I want to pierce my eyebrow again, but if I decide I do want to, I'll be returning to Instinct's.
