About two months ago I decided to try to get my eyebrow pierced. I am probably one of the most odd people at my school, and thought it would be really neat to have a piece of body art to add to all my weirdness. I thought my eyebrow would be a great spot. It doesn't have any mucus membranes, you don't kiss anyone with it, and it's not that painful I've heard.

I asked my mom if I could get it pierced and she said she had no problem with it, since my sis has a tattoo, her ex-boyfriend has his tongue pierced and her ex-girlfriend has nipple rings and two tattoos. I was totally psyched, but my mom told me to ask my dad if it was ok. I did so...and he said no. The story goes that my mom was a hippy and my dad ran track, they're quite different potatoes.

I was freaking out. I asked him day after day if I could do it. I started planning out when, and where. I even asked my friend to come with me so she could get her navel pierced. Well, after a month or two of asking him and asking him, turns out he has a phobia of facial piercings, I finally impressed him enough with my schoolwork that he let me do it...

After I got my dad everything went kind of fast. My sister got her tattoo at Boulder Ink, one of the best places in Boulder for piercings and tattoos. It also turned out that my friends mom, and my hairdresser both got pierced there also. We thought of good times and my sis called up to make an appointment. Problem...Boulder Ink does not pierce or tattoo -anyone- under the age of 18, with or without a parent. I was back to square one, but...

My sister called around and found K & K Piercing on the hill, they work with stainless steel and you can get pierced under 18 with a parent. This all happened in the same day...

So my friend and I went through the entire day, psyched, freaked, and excited about our soon to be metal appendages. The day ticked by and finally school got out. We flipped and waited and finally we went on our way to K & K. The entire way there I was stressing, even though I read on BME that it hurts hardly at all.

We went inside and did the motions, me and my friend both picked barbells for our piercings. Her mom asked if everything was sterile, which it was, very important. He said he would get the place cleaned and then we could do it.

The original plan was for me to go first; I heard eyebrows are significantly less painful than navels so I thought I'd be nice to my friend. Well, I chickened at that moment and my friend went first instead. Which ended up being ok because I really wanted to know how the needle went in and the tubes and barbells and everything...

We went into the little partitioned room and Mike did his thing, I was surprised at the technical end of it. They put on a clamp that has a hole in it, and then they put a hollow needle through your skin. After that they put a few tubes through it and pull the needle out. Then they put the jewelry on through that. It looked painful but my friend did all right, so I figured I could do it.

My mom and me waited for it to be sterile again and we went back. I laid down and he marked where it would be with a pen, I asked for it a little more over and he obliged a little. I decided I liked it and he cleaned the area and then applied the clamp. It felt like there was pressure but it was pretty painless, until he tightened it. It was just painful enough that I thought he had pierced me already, he hadn't...

After the clamp he told me to take a deep breath, I did and felt a sharp pinching prick right in my eyebrow. After which was a lot of pressure when he put the tubes in and the jewelry. The entire time I had my eyes closed and at one point could feel the needle on my eyelid. However, the next time I opened my eyes I had a new piece of jewelry.

He explained about the cleaning and we got little cards with cleaning instructions, we asked our questions and then left.

As a piercing, I highly recommend the eyebrow. It looks great, although you must have the right facial shape. The procedure for me and my friend took about 40 minutes and the pain was intense for about three minutes. Afterwards it was sore and throbbing but all in all about as painful as an ear piercing. If you're ever in Boulder check out Boulder Ink and K & K Piercing they're all great places.

The last time I was on BME was to read stories about eyebrow piercings so I could psych myself out to do it. I loved reading the stories, now I'm writing one of my own. Compared to my ears I did a great time this time, and it was totally better. This experience was a great one.
