I have always been a big fan of piercing and tattoos. I have 5 tattoos and I have had lots of piercing in the past but have always retired them for one reason or another. I have been wanting a new piercing for a while now but just couldn't find the right one for me. I was browsing through bme and I finally found it. The septum as soon as I saw it I knew that I was getting it.
At A Glance Author britney Contact britney@bme.anon When It just happened Artist myself Studio my bathroom Location mississippi I asked my mom what she would think of it and she said 'a what?! Like the rings the bulls have? Oh my god, please don't get it'. But me being me of course I'm still going to do it.
I really didn't want to pay $40 or $50 for someone to stick a needle through my nose on the chance that something might happen and I have to take it out. So I went onto eBay and looked up septum piercing kits and septum clamps. I got a sterile hollow needle, a 16g horseshoe, alcohol wipe, gloves and clamps. If I was going to do it myself I was going to do it right. It only ended up costing me $15. Now I just had to wait for it to arrive.
I'm the meantime I did all the research I could on it. I read tons of stories from bme, looked at pictures, watched videos of septum's being pierced, found out what could go wrong, made sure I knew exactly where to pierce, and found out everything I could about them.
By the time I got done researching I was wondering if I still wanted to even do it. I read so many horror stories and was wondering if I was even capable of doing this. But I had already paid for the supplies so there was no backing out now!
Finally the piercing kit came. I was so excited when I saw it in the mail I took off running for the house singing. I got inside and was opening it up and that's when my mom walked in. It took her a second to realize what I had then she just said oh god and walked off.
I sat down and ate something and then started setting up for the piercing. I took everything off my bathroom counter and wiped down the counter, mirror, and sink with Clorox wipes. I got some paper towels and laid them down on the counter and laid all the supplies out. I got a cup and filled it with alcohol and dropped in the ring and the clamps. That's when I realized I didn't have any a & d for the needle. So I was going to have to run to the store.
I grabbed some cash and ran out of the house and to the store. I'm surprised that I made it there and back ok because I was so worked up and ready to do the piercing. I made it back ok and headed back to the bathroom.
I washed my hands and put on the gloves. I got the alcohol wipe and cleaned my nose. That part sucked because it stunk and burned. I opened the needle and got it ready. Then I got the clamps and placed and replaced them and finally got them in a position I was happy with. Now here comes the fun part. I picked up the needle and put it right against my nose. I counted to 3 and PIERCED.
There was no pain, no watery eyes, nothing like I read about. I started freaking out at this point because I was wondering if I even got it through. I thought it couldn't be that easy. I took the clamps off and looked and sure enough I had I big ass needle through my nose. At that point I screamed and I hear my mom say she could deal without the screaming. I called her back to get a picture of the needle shoved through my nose and then I put the ring in.
When I got the ring in was when it started bleeding. I started freaking again because I though I might have hit a vein. But it stopped after a few seconds. So I screwed the ball on and adjusted it and looked in the mirror. I LOVED IT. It was better that I was hoping for. To be my first diy piercing it looks pretty damn good. Not crooked and placed just right.
I walked out and showed my mom and she LOVED it. She has been telling me ever since she saw it how good it looks and how much she loves it. She even said if she was 20 years younger she would get one herself!
So I cleaned everything up and mixed up some sea salt water to clean it with. I blew bubbles in the water for about 5 minutes . That really took some getting used to.
So it has been about 12 hours or so since I did it and still very little pain. It's a little tinder to the touch but nothing unbearable. I'm doing sea salt soaks twice a day and blowing bubbles in the water to loosen the crusties. I really love and think it turned out perfect. I would tell anyone to get this piercing! It is so cute!
Also, if you want to do a diy piercing I say go for it! It is a very personal experience. But if you are going to do it, do it right! Get the right supplies and please don't use a sewing needle and a lighter. And please do your research.
